News: Hardy, who last week appealed a guilty verdict for assaulting a female and communicating threats, may avoid being suspended this season, since his pending jury trial is likely to occur after the upcoming campaign, the Charlotte Observer reports. Impact: Hardy's potential suspension could be delayed because the league office typically allows the legal process to play out before imposing player discipline. As such, if his pending jury trial is indeed scheduled for after the season is over, the Panthers defensive end may avoid any punishment until next year. If that proves true, Hardy's IDP stock would benefit from a full season, although it's unclear if the attention from his off-field troubles could impact his on-field production.(RotoWire, )

News: Hardy was found guilty of assaulting a female and communicating threats on Tuesday, the Charlotte Observer reports. Impact: Hardy's charges stem from a May 13 confrontation with his ex-girlfriend at his apartment. The woman accused Hardy of throwing her to the floor, strangling her, slamming her on a futon covered with guns, and threatening to shoot her because Hardy was upset over a short-term relationship she had with another man. Hardy, who was sentenced to 18 months probation and had a 60-day jail sentence suspended, ultimately appealed the verdict and will now be granted a jury trail. A date for that trial has not been set, but it appears Hardy faces an uphill legal battle. If his initial guilty ruling stands, Hardy can expect to be suspended by the league to begin this season. Coincidentally, Tuesday marked the Panthers' deadline to reach a long-term extension with Hardy, but unsurprisingly, amid Hardy's uncertain future in Carolina, no such agreement was made.(RotoWire, )

News: Hardy pleaded not guilty to charges of communicating threats and assaulting a female in court Tuesday morning, the Charlotte Observer reports. Impact: Hardy was arrested in May after his ex-girlfriend accused him of throwing her to the floor, strangling her, slamming her on a futon covered with guns, and threatening to shoot her. Since the alleged incident, the woman in question has failed to attend both a protective order request hearing, as well as Tuesday's bench trial. Nonetheless, if Hardy is found guilty of both misdemeanor charges, he would have the right to appeal for a jury trial. If he's ultimately convicted, Hardy could face up to 60 days in jail.(RotoWire, )
