News: Smith completed 26-of-42 passes for 255 yards with no touchdowns in Sunday's 24-17 loss at Denver. He did not turn the ball over, and rushed for 42 yards on five carries. Impact: Smith kept Kansas City in the game, with his usual dinking and dunking, although he did find young tight end Travis Kelce down the field a couple of times. It looked like Smith might force overtime late in regulation, but his fourth-down pass from a couple of yards away fell incomplete. Even though Smith didn't account for any touchdowns, he did help fantasy owners out with his rushing ability for the second straight week.(RotoWire, )

News: Smith struggled in Sunday's 26-10 loss to Tennessee, completing just 19-of-35 passes for 202 yards. He tossed one touchdown and was intercepted three times. Impact: Smith did contribute 36 yards on the ground, but it was a relatively ugly performance at home. He was missing one of his top wide receivers in Dwayne Bowe, and Kansas City curiously gave Jamaal Charles just 11 touches. In any event, Smith is going to have to play much better in Week 2, as he'll have his hands full with Denver on the road.(RotoWire, )

News: Smith has agreed to a four-year, $68 million extension that includes $45 million in guaranteed money, a person familiar with the contract told The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Sunday because the team had not announced the deal, which will keep Smith in Kansas City through the 2018 season. Impact: Smith and his representatives had been discussing an extension with the Chiefs for several months, and the veteran quarterback was hopeful a deal would be done before the regular season.(STATS, 9:29pm)
