News: Miller remains listed as the starter at running back over Knowshon Moreno on the Dolphins' first official depth chart of the regular season, the team's official site reports. Impact: Though Miller remains listed as the top back on the Dolphins' posted depth chart, the report suggests that both Miller and Moreno figure to see considerable playing time out of the team's backfield. In any case, until something resembling a predictable distribution of the team's carries emerges, and that won't likely be revealed until Sunday's season opener against the Patriots, we'll continue to operate under the assumption that some form of timehare will be in effect out of the gate. Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald maintains that he expects Moreno to emerge as the team's top back, but such a scenario remains speculative, given the team's posted depth chart.(RotoWire, )

News: Though coach Joe Philbin has yet to say whether Miller or Knowshon Moreno will start at running back for the Dolphins in advance of Week 1, Chris Perkins of the Sun Sentinel suggests that most think that Moreno will emerge as the starter, with Miller as the team's primary backup. Impact: It's a notion echoed by Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald, with the Sun-Sentinel report suggesting that Moreno -- who has recovered from a knee issue that gave Miller an initial edge in the competition -- has been the more decisive runner of the two of late. While we still expect some form of timeshare to be in effect out of the gate, based on Monday's speculative reports, the momentum may have tilted in Moreno's favor.(RotoWire, )

News: Offensive coordinator Bill Lazor hasn't clarified whether Miller or Knowshon Moreno will emerge as the Dolphins' No. 1 running back, the Palm Beach Post reports. Impact: Miller combined for 48 yards on 14 carries, for an average of 3.4 yards per carry in his preseason action, while Moreno gained 64 yards on 10 carries in his only exhibition work on Aug. 23. Lazor indicated that he's seen some flashes of promise from Miller during practice, while also hinting that the running back needs to continue to work on his decisiveness from the backfield. Meanwhile, coach Joe Philbin suggests that based on the flow of games, the Dolphins may roll with whoever has the hot hand. In any case, until a top option is identified by the coaching staff, we'll operate under the assumption that some form of timeshare will be in effect to start the season. For his part, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald believes that the balance has tilted in Moreno's favor, but until a more predictable distribution of the team's carries emerges, it's a notion that remains speculative.(RotoWire, )

News: Miller and Knowshon Moreno have split first-team running back snaps over the past two days, according to Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. Impact: The report adds that while coach Joe Philbin indicated that the team's top running back job has yet to be settled, it notes that Philbin has said some good things about Miller this week. "I like everything Lamar has done since he's gotten here," Philbin said. "He's had an excellent offseason and camp...I like everything he's done since April 21." In reference to Moreno, Philbin noted that, "Knowshon ran the ball well [Saturday]." Until or unless a starter is declared by the team, we'll operate under the assumption that some form of time-share will likely be in effect to start the season, though Miller's sustained solid effort could result in the balance tilting in his favor out of the gate. In any case, Moreno's superior pass protection ability figures to ensure him a third-down role, at the very least, until a more predictable distribution of carries emerges.(RotoWire, )

News: Miller had 34 yards on seven carries and three yards on two receptions in Saturday's preseason game against the Cowboys. Impact: Splitting the first-team workload, Miller and Knowshon Moreno (knee) both had success against the weak Dallas defense. Miller got the start and handled a decent portion of the third-down work, but Moreno is the better bet to pile up receptions this season, and the former Bronco could push for the starting gig. Whatever ground he may have lost due to injury, Moreno seems to be close to making it up. Come Week 1, both backs figure to be involved in the offense.(RotoWire, )
