News: Ridley, Shane Vereen, James White and Brandon Bolden are the four running backs retained by the Patriots on their 53-man roster, csnne.com reports. Impact: Despite speculation Ridley could be cut, he was retained by the team. As long as he's able take adequate care of the football, he remains a candidate for both early-down and goal-line work.(RotoWire, )

News: Ridley and fellow running back Shane Vereen were among the Patriots' players who were in uniform, but did not play in Thursday's preseason finale against the Giants, the Boston Herald reports. Impact: A number of the team's regulars were predictably rested in the preseason finale, with Ridley's inclusion in that group suggesting that he remains part of the team's backfield plans, a notion echoed in the latest Patriots' roster projection posted by Mike Reiss of ESPN.com Reiss previously speculated that Ridley could a candidate to be a surprise cut, but such a scenario seems unlikely at this stage. While Ridley's role, and in turn, his fantasy value hinges on his ability to take good care of the football, it looks like he remains in line to team up with Vereen, a capable pass-catcher out of the backfield, in the New England offense, with rookie James White also on hand. Meanwhile, Brandon Bolden, Jonas Gray and Roy Finch are all candidates to secure the team's No. 4 RB role.(RotoWire, )

News: In the Patriots' roster projection posted Monday by ESPN's Mike Reiss, Ridley is listed as a possible odd man out. Impact: The report is admittedly speculative in nature, and such an outcome would be very surprising, but Ridley's low snap count (11) in Friday's third preseason game caught Reiss' eye. Meanwhile, Ben Volin of the Boston Globe predicts that Ridley will stick, which seems a much more likely scenario, with the running back's past fumbling issues presumably the reason at this stage that there would be any question surrounding his potential role with the Patriots this coming season.(RotoWire, )

News: Ridley gained 28 yards on eight carries in Friday's preseason game against the Panthers. Impact: Shane Vereen got the start and dominated the first-half workload as the Patriots went with a fairly pass-heavy approach. Ridley and James White were both worked in with the first-team offense, but White had just two touches while the starters were still in the game. Though Ridley remains the favorite to handle the goal-line work and lead the team in carries, he's once again a risky proposition. Shane Vereen could easily end up playing more snaps, and White looms as a threat to further eat into Ridley's touches. On the flip side, assuming Ridley is able to avoid fumbling woes, he should see quite a bit of work when the Patriots are nursing a lead or near the goal line, and both of those things figure to happen quite often.(RotoWire, )
