News: Hawkins is listed as the starting wideout in place of Josh Gordon for Thursday's preseason finale, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports. Impact: Hawkins will start his second straight preseason game opposite Miles Austin, suggesting that the starting job may be his for their Week 1 matchup against the Steelers. Despite his small 5-foot-7 stature, he's been able to impress the coaching staff during camp, and figures to be in line for a much more prominent role in the offense in the absence of Gordon. No need to reach too greatly for a guy like Hawkins in fantasy drafts, but if needed, he may end up a serviceable WR3, especially in PPR formats.(RotoWire, )

News: Hawkins started Saturday's preseason game against the Rams, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports. Impact: While thought of as a slot receiver, Hawkins may end up starting in two-wide sets, as he did Saturday night. Nate Burleson (hamstring) has yet to play this preseason, and Josh Gordon (abdomen) is still waiting on the final word regarding a possible long-term suspension. Also, a healthy Burleson wouldn't necessarily get the nod over Hawkins. Extra snaps would of course be a positive for Hawkins' value, which is quite a bit higher in PPR leagues. He caught five passes for 36 yards and a touchdown on five targets Saturday against the Rams, carrying an otherwise lifeless offense. As odd is it is to say this about a 5-7 receiver, Hawkins could emerge as the Browns' go-to guy sans-Gordon, though Miles Austin is also a candidate. Austin is the bigger player, but at this point in their respective careers, Hawkins is the better one.(RotoWire, )
