News: James had two separate stints on the Bucs roster in 2015, but didn't take a snap from scrimmage.
Impact: The third-year pro made the final roster out of training camp, but was inactive for the season's first three contests before being released on Sept. 29. He was re-signed to the practice squad and subsequently promoted to the 53-man roster on Dec. 26, but nevertheless failed to get on the field over the final two games of the season. A sixth-round pick in the final draft of the Greg Schiano regime in 2013, James showed flashes as a rookie after an injury to Doug Martin provided him with some playing time, collecting 295 yards on 60 carries and notching 10 receptions for 43 yards over eight games. However, James played sparingly in 2014 behind Martin, Charles Sims and Bobby Rainey, and may find himself on the outside looking in once again heading into the 2016 offseason.

News: James is inactive for Sunday's game against the Bears.
Impact: James was added from the practice squad a day earlier. With all of Doug Martin, Charles Sims, and Bobby Rainey ahead of him on the depth chart, James will likely need one of those players to suffer an injury before he has a chance at being active for a game.

News: James was added to the Buccaneers' active roster Saturday, Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports.
Impact: The Buccaneers placed defensive tackle Akeem Spence (ankle) on injured reserve Saturday, leaving an open spot on the active roster for James. However, James may have a hard time getting on the field when the Bucs have the ball given that he'll be behind workhorse Doug Martin and the versatile Charles Sims. James will likely add some depth on special teams.
