NFL 5 107 Brian Billick looks ahead to NFL Week 9 31950793 Indianapolis Colts at Houston Texans (Sunday, 8:30 p.m. ET, NBC) Indianapolis+Colts+at+Houston+Texans+%28Sunday%2C+8%3A30+p.m.+ET%2C+NBC%29 NFL

The Colts are 5-2 and coming off a big win against the Broncos in Week 7, but in that big win came a big loss. The Colts lost Reggie Wayne for the season with an ACL tear and Andrew Luck will be without his most consistent target for the remaining nine games and postseason. Darrius Heyward-Bey has averaged five targets per game this season, and is surely going to have to become a bigger part of the offense now that Wayne will be out. More importantly, the Colts will look to their running game to compensate for the loss of output and that means Trent Richardson needs to become the player they thought they were getting when trading a first-round pick for his services. With a full two weeks to dive into the playbook over the bye week, Richardson should be more comfortable in the offense than ever and I believe we will start to see an impact from him this weekend and moving throughout the final weeks of the season. I’ll take the Colts to beat Case Keenum in just his second start of the season.

NFL 5 107 Brian Billick looks ahead to NFL Week 9 31950790 Baltimore Ravens at Cleveland Browns (Sunday, 54:25 p.m. ET, CBS) Baltimore+Ravens+at+Cleveland+Browns+%28Sunday%2C+54%3A25+p.m.+ET%2C+CBS%29 NFL

The Ravens are 5-0 coming off bye weeks in the John Harbaugh era and have outscored their opponents 138-56 in those games, but this has been a season in which nothing has come easy for the Ravens. After starting 2-1, they have now lost three of their last four and are the first defending champions to have a losing record through seven games since the 2006 Steelers. The Browns have lost three straight themselves but showed some life with Jason Campbell as the starting quarterback last week – though he still didn’t match the output of Brian Hoyer earlier in the season. With the Bengals’ loss on Thursday night, each team has a great opportunity to make up ground in the AFC North, and I like the Ravens’ chances just a little bit more than the Browns.

NFL 5 107 Brian Billick looks ahead to NFL Week 9 31950791 Pittsburgh Steelers at New England Patriots (Sunday, 4:25 p.m. ET, CBS) Pittsburgh+Steelers+at+New+England+Patriots+%28Sunday%2C+4%3A25+p.m.+ET%2C+CBS%29 NFL

The Patriots are just 9-for-49 on third-down conversions over the last four weeks, worst in the NFL, and Tom Brady continues to struggle. Last week, he finished with a season-low 116 passing yards on just 13 completions and was intercepted on his first pass of the game. That was his fourth straight game with a passer rating of below 75 and the second straight week he failed to reach 200 yards through the air. Despite their 2-5 start, the Steelers have still been solid on defense as they ranked fourth overall in yards and had three takeaways last week. This obviously won’t be a cakewalk for the Patriots, but they should improve to 7-2 by the end of the week.

NFL 5 107 Brian Billick looks ahead to NFL Week 9 31950789 Philadelphia Eagles at Oakland Raiders (Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET, FOX) Philadelphia+Eagles+at+Oakland+Raiders+%28Sunday%2C+4%3A05+p.m.+ET%2C+FOX%29 NFL

Heading into Week 7, Chip Kelly’s teams had never scored fewer than eight points in a game: they've now have done so in back-to-back weeks against very poor defenses. They scored just three points against the Cowboys in Week 7 and then just seven (on special teams) last week against the Giants. They will turn back to Nick Foles as Michael Vick returns to the bench with a hamstring injury. Last time we saw Foles, he completed just 11 of 29 passing attempts for 80 yards and was sacked three times. The Raiders are a very respectable 3-1 at home and their only loss was the game Terrelle Pryor missed with concussion-like symptoms. Pryor leads all NFL quarterbacks in rushing yards with 391 and is just 138 yards shy of the Raiders’ single-season record for a quarterback. I’ll go with the home team, but I’m not overly confident about it.

NFL 5 107 Brian Billick looks ahead to NFL Week 9 31950788 Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Seattle Seahawks (Sunday, 4:05 p.m. ET, FOX) Tampa+Bay+Buccaneers+at+Seattle+Seahawks+%28Sunday%2C+4%3A05+p.m.+ET%2C+FOX%29 NFL

The Legion of Boom will face off against the league’s 31st-ranked offense and 26th passing offense, so they should have plenty of chances to force turnovers against rookie quarterback Mike Glennon. Glennon has 181 passing attempts over his first four games, which is the most in NFL history -- more than Andrew Luck, more than Cam Newton. That is just part of the reason that Tampa Bay has lost 12 of its last 13 games. To make matters worse, the Seahawks have won 11 in a row at home and Seattle is quickly becoming the toughest place to play in all of the NFL, although Kansas City fans may have something to say about that. I’ll take the Seahawks in a blowout.

NFL 5 107 Brian Billick looks ahead to NFL Week 9 31950786 Atlanta Falcons at Carolina Panthers (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, FOX) Atlanta+Falcons+at+Carolina+Panthers+%28Sunday%2C+1+p.m.+ET%2C+FOX%29 NFL

Headlined by Star Lotulelei, the Panthers used their first two draft picks on interior defensive lineman, and building from the inside out has really paid off. Carolina has the second-ranked scoring defense and the second-ranked rushing defense and that is going to make things very difficult for the Falcons. As it stands, the Falcons already rank dead last in rushing offense and the NFL’s active career leader in rushing yards, Steven Jackson, has just 83 yards on 25 attempts this entire season. Last week, the Falcons rushed the ball 14 times for just 1.9 yards per carry -- one of which was a 13-yard scramble from Matt Ryan. This is a classic strength vs. weakness and the Panthers are just too good up front.

NFL 5 107 Brian Billick looks ahead to NFL Week 9 31950787 Minnesota Vikings at Dallas Cowboys (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, FOX) Minnesota+Vikings+at+Dallas+Cowboys+%28Sunday%2C+1+p.m.+ET%2C+FOX%29 NFL

Leslie Frazier is holding his cards close to the vest as he is yet to announce a starting quarterback. Yet, whether it’s Josh Freeman or Christian Ponder, neither may face a more forgiving defense in their entire careers. The Cowboys have already surrendered four 400-yard passing days and that is more than any defense has allowed in an entire season, let alone just eight games. They rank dead last in total defense and passing defense but if they can’t stop the Vikings passing game, they are in real trouble. Neither Ponder nor Freeman has won a game this season. Ponder has more rushing touchdowns than he does passing touchdowns and Freeman has thrown an interception in each of his last seven starts and currently has the league’s worst completion percentage at 42.9.

NFL 5 107 Brian Billick looks ahead to NFL Week 9 31950785 New Orleans Saints at New York Jets (Sunday, 1 p.m. ET, FOX) New+Orleans+Saints+at+New+York+Jets+%28Sunday%2C+1+p.m.+ET%2C+FOX%29 NFL

This will be the fourth time the brothers face off as either being a head coach or coordinator and Rex hasn’t lost a single time. But that may change as the Jets are coming off their worst defensive outing of the seasonby giving up 49 points to the Bengals and the Saints and Drew Brees are coming off their hottest offensive performance to date. Brees threw five touchdown passes last week, but that matches his entire total for the three games he has played on the road so far this season. The Jets have yet to win or lose back-to-back games this season so that would suggest a win after a loss last week, but the NFL is not a perfect science so I’m going with Rob Ryan and the Saints to win by at least a touchdown.

Alex Smith is coming off his best game of the season in which he tossed two touchdown passes and posted his first passer rating above 100 as a member of the Chiefs. He should be able to build off that momentum against the Bills’ 26th-ranked total defense and their 24th-ranked passing defense -- but only if he can avoid the pressure from Mario Williams. Led by Williams’ 11, the Bills have 27 sacks this season, second only to the Chiefs who have a league-high 36 led by Justin Houston who also has 11 on the season. At this pace, both Williams and Houston will finish the season with 22 sacks, tying Michael Strahan for the NFL record.
