NFL 5 43 Week 10: What we learned 30362767 Live, from Indy, it's Sunday afternoon Live%2C+from+Indy%2C+it%27s+Sunday+afternoon NFL

Remember how good Peyton Manning was as a host on "Saturday Night Live." The show was funny, crisp and must-see viewing. The Colts' season is like "SNL" usually is — not funny, dragging on far too long and cringe-worthy viewing. Even with Manning doing his best to help coach Jim Caldwell on the sideline (pictured), the Colts are beyond hope. They couldn't reach the end zone at home against a mediocre Jacksonville squad, falling 17-3. Dan Orlovsky mopped up for Curtis Painter at quarterback, but the march to 0-16 continued in step. "The Indianapolis Colts select Andrew Luck." Not exactly a great punch line, is it?

NFL 5 43 Week 10: What we learned 30362768 Skelton's the key Skelton%27s+the+key NFL

How bad are things going for the Eagles? They now have lost to their former backup's backup. John Skelton (pictured) threw three touchdown passes to lead Arizona to a 21-17 victory at Philadelphia. Skelton was starting in place of the injured Kevin Kolb, who was pushed aside for Michael Vick in Philly and then traded to Arizona for half the Sonoran Desert and some native artwork from Sedona. The Eagles blew a fourth-quarter lead for the fifth time this season. Vince Young was right. This is a dream team — the 3-6 Eagles are sleeping through the season.

NFL 5 43 Week 10: What we learned 30362760 There's no controversy here There%27s+no+controversy+here NFL

It made for good copy as Titans running back Chris Johnson struggled and backup Javon Ringer actually outgained him. Hey, how about a running back controversy? Umm, nope. Johnson had 27 carries, 130 yards and a touchdown as Tennessee thoroughly dominated the Panthers on the road, 30-3. Ringer gained 19 yards on six carries. Johnson even had four catches for 44 yards. These weren't explosive yards, but Johnson milked the clock as the Tennessee defense harassed rookie QB Cam Newton with five sacks. That's a winning formula, void of controversy.

NFL 5 43 Week 10: What we learned 30362765 Shanahan isn't the first Shanahan+isn%27t+the+first NFL

Things are going bad for Washington Redskins coach Mike Shanahan. He can't keep his running backs healthy. He can't find a QB who plays well more than a week at a time. He works for Daniel Snyder. And now he's riding the first five-game losing streak of his career, courtesy a 20-9 spanking at Miami. Remember, though, Shanahan isn't the first Super Bowl-winning coach to struggle in DC. Vince Lombardi was 7-5-2 in his lone season, the worst mark of his stellar career. Triple champion Joe Gibbs was so-so in his second go-round with the Redskins. Take heart, Mr. Shanahan. You're in good company, if not with a good team.

If you do, there’s a good chance he’s going to wind up looking like Phil Dawson (pictured). The Browns can’t do any finger-pointing after Dawson missed a 22-yard field-goal attempt that could have put them up late against the Rams. First, the snap bounced before it reached the holder. Second, that was the Browns' fourth visit inside the Rams' 20-yard-line and they hadn't come close to punching the ball into the end zone. Dawson had four field goals and was not at fault on the miss. Live by the field goal, die by the field goal (in this case, 13-12 at home to a team that entered the game with one victory).

Tebow. There, we said it. May we move on now? Thanks. As the world fixates on the quarterback's two glorious completions, the Broncos can feel better about their future after the performance of linebacker Von Miller. This year's first-round draft pick had his best game yet. The linebacker (pictured sacking Matt Cassel) had seven tackles and 1-1/2 sacks as the Broncos beat Kansas City 17-10 on the road. Pressure on the quarterback has been a missing commodity in Denver in recent years. Miller playing to his potential will go a long way toward changing that. He might put QBs on the run as if they were Tebow. There's that name again.

NFL 5 43 Week 10: What we learned 30362763 This was no Roman holiday This+was+no+Roman+holiday NFL

Saints-Falcons has become on the the fiercest rivalries in the NFL. Position in the NFC South is usually at stake, and the players show playoff intensity. Such was the case Sunday as the Saints pulled off an overtime victory on the road. New Orleans strong  safety Roman Harper was in the middle of the action all day. He had 13 tackles, including seven on bruising Falcons running back Michael Turner. Harper also sacked Matt Ryan once and held his own in coverage against tight end Tony Gonzalez when the Falcons looked his way in the final two minutes of regulation. Yeah, Harper dropped a would-be interception that could have prevented OT. But his run support surely was one reason the Falcons ran away from his direction when they went for it on fourth-and-1 deep in their territory in OT. Turner was stuffed; the Saints won 26-23 on John Kasay's 26-yard field goal.

NFL 5 43 Week 10: What we learned 30362759 The Bengals are in the wrong division The+Bengals+are+in+the+wrong+division NFL

The Bengals entered the week No. 4 in the league in total defense. That alone would make you the favorite in most divisions. Cincy shares the AFC North with the Ravens and Steelers, however. Those two are regulars atop the defensive rankings and, indeed, were Nos. 2 and 3, above the Bengals this year. Rough and tumble, gnawing on raw meat, all that tough-guy stuff. The battle-tested Steelers marched into Cincinnati on Sunday and pulled out a 24-17 victory in a predictably physical game. Steelers running back Rashard Mendenhall (pictured) earned every one of his 44 yards and two touchdowns. Cincy doesn't stand out in this mosh pit of a division. It's just another body slamming about.

For all his fourth-quarter flubs, Tony Romo flashes just enough greatness to make the football faithful in Dallas swear allegiance. Sunday was one of those days. Romo was 23 of 26 for 270 yards with three touchdown passes and no interceptions in a 44-7 rout of the Bills. What in the name of Aaron Rodgers is going on around here? Dallas has a favorable second-half schedule. If Romo can duplicate this week's brilliance, the Cowboys might have goals beyond sneaking into the playoffs. Maybe somebody can set Jerry Jones up for a Super Bowl suite in Indianapolis.

OK, we knew the Texans were getting good. But a 37-9 road victory against a still-tough Tampa Bay team? That has our attention. The Texans are winning with a stifling defense and a balanced offense. Quarterback Matt Schaub threw only 15 passes Sunday. He would do that in a quarter in the old days. What's more, only four of his 11 completions went to wide receivers. Running back Arian Foster (pictured) led the team with four catches and 104 yards. Plus, he gained 87 yards on the ground. Star receiver Andre Johnson has missed six games because of a hamstring injury. The Texans aren't just surviving in his absence; they're evolving.

NFL 5 43 Week 10: What we learned 30365992 Back to Earth Back+to+Earth NFL

It appears that is where the Detroit Lions, the early-season darlings of the NFL, are heading. Losers of three of their last four games, the Lions suffered their worst loss of the season Sunday, both in terms of points (37-13) and opponent (at Chicago, creating a second-place tie in the NFC North). Matthew Stafford entered Week 10 with four interceptions, and then threw four on Sunday alone. Two of those were returned for TDs by the Bears defense, and Devin Hester added a punt return for a score for good measure (the NFL record 12th of his career). Detroit will look to rebound against Carolina at home next week before a Thanksgiving Day matchup against the currently unbeaten Green Bay Packers, a game which looked a lot more attractive a month ago.

. . . than the Baltimore Ravens? Here are the Ravens last four results: 12-7 loss at Jacksonville, narrow 30-27 win at home against Arizona, 23-20 last-minute victory at Pittsburgh that was supposed to change the AFC North landscape, and Sunday's baffling 22-17 loss at Seattle. Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch ran for 109 yards and a score, the defense forced zero turnovers while the Ravens turned the ball over three times (including two by return man David Reed, pictured), and Joe Flacco generated little offense until a 10-point 'comeback' in the game's final 16 minutes came up five points short. With the Steelers defeating the Bengals (next week's Ravens opponent), the margin for error in this division is as slim as ever.

NFL 5 43 Week 10: What we learned 30365994 Another game, another question answered Another+game%2C+another+question+answered NFL

Eli Manning can be 'elite' all he wants. Jim Harbaugh and his San Francisco 49ers are 8-1 after Sunday's 27-20 victory over the New York Giants, and that is fine with them. With Manning driving his team toward the tying TD in the game's final minute, the 49ers defense stood tall and batted down a fourth-down pass, setting off this celebration. What's more, San Francisco did it with zero yards (literally) from star running back Frank Gore, who eventually left the game with a knee injury. A year removed from the Mike Singletary disaster, the 49ers have carried their first-year head coach to a five-game lead in the NFC West, by far the widest margin in the NFL.

Perhaps some. But the dynamic duo (or Evil Empire, depending on your perspective) of Tom Brady and Bill Belichick made quick work of the New York Jets on Sunday night, romping 37-16 at the Big Apple. Brady threw for 329 yards and three scores, Belichick got the better of Rex Ryan, and the Pats ended a two-game losing streak and reclaimed the top perch in the AFC East. What's more, of New England's remaining seven games, only the season finale at home against 5-4 Buffalo is against a team currently sporting a winning record.
