The third preseason game is when the starters play longer than just a few series. Well, the Packers and Seahawks will be busy poring over this game tape over the next week, because the first half was … questionable.
First, it was the penalties. Both teams combined to get 10 flags for 104 yards over the first two quarters. Seahawks guard JR Sweezy was especially negligent, drawing a personal foul penalty for jumping on a pile:
Then it was the turnovers. Green Bay’s Jarrett Boykin fumbled after a nice gain.
Russell Wilson, normally surehanded in the pocket, tossed two interceptions. First, there was a tip-drill pick by Casey Hayward:
Then, it was another interception on a plain bad pass:
Then, here was the lowlight of the first half. Green Bay drove the ball deep into Seattle territory and had a fourth-and-2 from the 4-yard line. Backup QB Graham Harrell threw a pass to Jermichael Finley that was initially ruled complete for a touchdown. A joyous Finley pulled off a Lambeau Leap, when this happened:
Did you notice the guy who vigorously slapped Finley’s buttocks? Take it easy! The final embarrassment was the touchdown was overturned on review and ruled an incomplete pass.
Sigh. Well, at least this is just a preseason game. In case you were wondering, the Seahawks won 17-10.
