A New York Daily News article Wednesday morning revealed that several anonymous Jets players and members of the organization took to the media to rip backup quarterback Tim Tebow.

More than a dozen Jets spoke to the Daily News’ Manish Mehta about Tebow, and both offensive and defensive players agreed…the guy just isn’t very good.

Last month, Tebow told the Daily News that he had been making improvements as a quarterback since his trade to New York. His teammates strongly disagree.

“He’s terrible,” a defensive starter told Mehta.

One player who didn’t speak under anonymity was offensive guard Matt Slauson, who didn’t exactly rip Tebow but made it clear that the Jets are much better off with Mark Sanchez as their starting quarterback.

“It’s not even close,” Slauson said. “All the other quarterbacks know it. I have all the confidence in Mark. We don’t really have a choice.”

Slauson went on to clarify that the Jets really only have one other quarterback on their roster.

“We have Greg [McElroy] . . . and we have an athlete,” Slauson said.

I know Tebow always tries makes it seem like the world is all rainbows and butterflies but even he has to be feeling pretty down about this report. It’s bad enough to get absolutely ripped by anonymous teammates to the media (stay classy, New York!) but to get absolutely ripped when the guy starting in front of you is Mark Sanchez? Oof! Talk about a swift kick to the undercarriage.

The Jets are 3-6 under Sanchez, who has completed a dismal 52% of his passes this season and has a league-high four redzone interceptions, but it’s certainly appears evident that he might be the lesser of two evils this season for New York…or at least his teammates think so.

It looks like it will take a historically awful performance from Sanchez to put some green back on the Tebowmania bandwagon. But hey, it is Mark Sanchez, right?
