Did the Colts almost sign a 'Game of Thrones' character?
Any "Game of Thrones" fans out there?
I know, silly question. But perhaps you're familiar with The Mountain, a character from that series. Well, he's played by Hafthor Bjornsson, a professional strongman who finished in second place in the 2013 Arnold Strongman Classic.
Here's what Bjornsoon looks like when he's working on set:
Anyway, Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay must be a big fan of the show because he fired off this tweet a year ago:
Off/Def Lineman,so many 6-3 to 6-7..320-365 lbs/Big,Physical and Nasty! Speaking of size/strength..GM Grig's just might sign "The Icelander"— Jim Irsay (@JimIrsay) May 13, 2013
"The Icelander" he's referring to, of course, is Bjornsson, who stands 6-foot-9 and weighs more than 400 pounds. And don't think he's just some stiff block of stone. Bjornsson was a basketball player before a knee injury forced him into the strongman competitions.
Now, we have no idea how close the Colts came to giving Bjornsson an NFL shot, but it's fun to imagine what it would be like to see him cracking heads on the gridiron.
