Did Eric Weddle's agent pull off an April Fools joke on his own client?
By the way, @ davidcanter pulled the prank, first and foremost, on Eric Weddle himself. Weddle fell for it at first. Hilarious. — UTKevinAcee (@UTKevinAcee) April 1, 2013As reported by Union-Tribune columnist Kevin Acee, Canter tried to pull a quick one on his client, and then took to Twitter to try to pull off the stunt.
Wow this business never ceases to amaze me. Was just told that client Eric Weddle was traded. Gathering details now — David Canter (@davidcanter) April 1, 2013Canter, who represents Weddle, went on to say that Weddle had been dealt to Denver.
The Broncos just got one hell of a player — David Canter (@davidcanter) April 1, 2013Some NFL reporters weren’t so privy to the joke and immediately swatted down the idea.
The Chargers can't be stupid enough to trade Weddle, can they? — Pete Prisco (@PriscoCBS) April 1, 2013
.@ davidcanter is a great follow. But today (4/1) he's being ridiculous. Trade wasn't believable even b4 Weddle told me it was to Broncos . — UTKevinAcee (@UTKevinAcee) April 1, 2013Canter tried to stretch the joke out as long as possible, but then gave in.
After informed Eric he was traded he was beside himself and beyond upset — David Canter (@davidcanter) April 1, 2013
Teams don't trade franchise players and best in game at the position. April Fools day everyone. Hope you don't hate me too long — David Canter (@davidcanter) April 1, 2013Although Rahim Moore had a disappointing performance in the AFC Divisional Round, the Broncos said at the NFL Combine that they will stick with the young safety. As for Weddle, he's been a consistent playmaker for the Chargers, and this move would have been devastating to an up-and-coming unit.
