Blaine Gabbert comes out strong ... then leaves hurt
Jags QB Blaine Gabbert sprained his right thumb. — Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) August 18, 2013
Sprained right thumb for Blaine Gabbert. He will have X-Rays at halftime. And on it goes for the guy... — P. Schrager (@PSchrags) August 18, 2013It's a shame because Gabbert's first drive was something special. He started by hitting Ace Sanders for 35 yards. Then he found Will Ta'ufo'ou for another 10 and Maurice Jones-Drew (making his preseason debut) for 20. Two players later Gabbert connected with Allen Reisner for a 5-yard touchdown pass. The Jags QB put together another scoring drive on his next possession, directing a 13-play, 95-yard drive that ended with a Josh Scobee field goal. Gabbert's final stat line: 13-of-16 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown. Granted, all this came against the Jets, a team with tons of issues all over its roster. But still, it was encouraging to see some positive things out of Gabbert. As far as his injury, we'll have to wait and see. We here at Laces Out hope it's nothing bad and that he can get back on the field soon. Questions? Comments? Send them to firstname.lastname@example.org and we might respond in our weekly mailbag!
