This is gonna cost him. Houston Texans DE Antonio Smith grabbed Richie Incognito's helmet
during Saturday's preseason game
and tried to bash him with it. The dramatic footage was shown on FOX Sports 1. Now, the NFL has reportedly responded. According to ESPN, Smith has been suspended for the Texans' regular-season opener and for the team's two remaining preseason games. According the report, Smith will also be fined. However,
FOX Football Daily
that the suspension isn't settled until NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell signs off on it. What's more, the suspension could end up being longer. This was expected, since by rule, the helmet can not be used as a weapon. On a side note, it's interesting that the NFL actually felt the need to put that in writing. What's more, Incognito could have decided to file criminal charges against Smith, but has apparently chosen against that. That's even though the two players have a history, since Smith was fined $21K in 2012 for kicking Incognito while the latter was the ground. Maybe these two guys need to be separated. Smith clearly can't control himself and Incognito must be doing something to provoke him. Anyway, Smith will be short one game check this season. That's gotta hurt.
What do you think? Is the punishment fair or foul?
