News: Orlovsky signed a one-year deal with the Lions on Monday, the team's official website reports.
Impact: Once again forced to make some difficult personnel decisions, the Lions will go cheap at the backup quarterback spot, allowing for spending elsewhere. The team does seem to value Orlovsky to some extent, as it would be even cheaper to go with either Kellen Moore or a late-round pick in the upcoming draft. Still, Orlovsky has never impressed when given the chance, and he's probably one of the lesser backup quarterbacks in the league.

News: Orlovsky completed 4-of-7 passes for 51 yards during the 2014 season.
Impact: Orlovsky saw a bit of action in a blowout loss to the Saints in December, but he otherwise spent the season watching Matthew Stafford from the sidelines. Next season, Orlovsky may not be back with the Lions, as he can become an unrestricted free agent in March, and Detroit always has a tight cap situation. Kellen Moore, the team's No. 3 quarterback in 2014, will be a restricted free agent.
