News: Matthews caught 4-of-5 targets for 109 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's Super Bowl loss to the Patriots.
Impact: Matthews, a 25-year-old 2011 UDFA, had never caught a pass in the NFL before Sunday's game. He only appeared in three games this season and was previously best known for recovering an onside kick in the NFC Championship Game against the Packers. Shockingly, Matthews emerged as the early MVP frontrunner Sunday evening, thanks to a pair of long receptions and an 11-yard touchdown. He split time with Ricardo Lockette working as the No. 3 wide receiver, and while he made a huge impact on the game, Matthews didn't actually play many snaps. The big Super Bowl showing is reason enough to keep an eye on Matthews, but it won't be surprising if he still needs to compete for a roster spot next season.
