News: Caldwell-Pope impressed new Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy with his play this summer, NBA.com reports. "He opened my eyes a lot," Van Gundy said. "More than anything what opened my eyes was the intensity and energy he brings to the floor every time he plays. He's an all-out guy all the time - practices, games. The other thing I saw is a real competitive side to him that I wasn't really aware of but I saw a real resolve and toughness and competitiveness that I came out excited just by his approach and his mental makeup in the way he goes about things."
Impact: As the team's 2013 lottery pick, Caldwell-Pope figures to have a pretty long leash, but it's still nice to hear he's already impressing his new coach. Caldwell-Pope's energy and defense figures to be what earns him playing time, and his role will only grow if he can build on the apparent offensive improvement he flashed during summer league this year.

News: Datome has decided to play for the Pistons during the 2014-15 season after being pursued by FC Barcelona, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports.
Impact: Datome couldn't crack the Pistons' rotation in his debut season, appearing in just 34 contests while averaging 2.4 points and 1.4 rebounds in under seven minutes per game. Instead of heading back overseas, Datome will stay with the Pistons and try to see if he has better luck earning playing time under new head coach Stan Van Gundy.

News: Monroe has told the Pistons he will accept their one-year qualifying offer, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Impact: The paperwork hasn't been signed yet, so nothing is official, but it appears Monroe will return to Detroit on a one-year qualifying offer. By accepting the offer, Monroe will be an unrestricted free agent after the 2014-15 season. Monroe has been a double-double machine for the Pistons for the past couple seasons, and while he doesn't appear to have a long-term future with the team any longer, there's little reason to believe he won't once again be a solid performer for the team this season.
