News: The Dallas Mavericks have signed Nelson as a free agent. Terms of the deal announced Thursday weren't released, but it is reportedly a one-year contract for the team's salary cap exception of $2.7 million.
Impact: Nelson spent his first 10 seasons with Orlando after the Magic acquired his rights from Denver, which took him with the 20th overall pick in 2004. The 32-year-old has career averages of 12.6 points and 5.4 assists. Orlando waived its career leader in assists on June 30. He joins a crowded list at point guard alongside Devin Harris and Raymond Felton.

News: Nelson has finalized a deal with the Mavericks, Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports reports.
Impact: Nelson will suit up for his 11th NBA season with the Mavericks, where he'll compete with Devin Harris and Raymond Felton for the starting point guard spot. All three of those options have proven capable of running an NBA offense, so it seems likely that they will each get their fair share of minutes under coach Rick Carlisle. Nelson has spent his entire career with the Orlando Magic, where he most recently posted averages of 12.1 points and 7.0 assists in the 2013-14 campaign. His fantasy value will ultimately be dependent on the role he's able to carve out.

News: The Dallas Mavericks have voided Lewis' contract because the free agent forward needs surgery on his right knee. President of basketball operations Donnie Nelson said Wednesday the team discovered the need for surgery during a physical. Lewis had signed a one-year deal for the veteran minimum of $1.4 million
Impact: The 34-year-old Lewis spent the past two seasons mostly coming off the bench in Miami. He averaged 4.5 points last season. He was expected to back up Dirk Nowitzki at power forward. Lewis has played 16 seasons since skipping college to enter the draft and going 32nd overall to Seattle in 1998. He has career averages of 14.9 points and 5.2 rebounds.

News: Felton has pleaded guilty in his New York gun case. He took a plea deal that involves admitting a felony but spares him jail.
Impact: Felton pleaded guilty Wednesday to attempted criminal possession of a weapon under an agreement prosecutors outlined last month. He was sentenced to 500 hours of community service and a $5,000 fine. Felton was arrested in February. Authorities said his estranged wife's lawyer brought a loaded semi-automatic handgun to a police precinct and said it was his.

News: Felton pleaded guilty to attempted criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm Wednesday but will avoid jail time, ESPN Dallas reports.
Impact: Rather than jail time, Felton was sentenced to 500 hours of community service and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine. Though the case took place in New York, Felton - now a member of the Mavericks - will be allowed to complete his service hours outside of New York. With the issue now behind him, Felton will focus on repairing his reputation, both on and off the court, after a forgettable 2013-14 season with the Knicks.

News: Harris is the projected starting point guard for the Mavericks after being signed to a four-year contract earlier this month, ESPN reports.
Impact: Harris may be pushed by Raymond Felton for the starting point guard spot, but with his new contract and the departure of Jose Calderon, Harris has the leg up going into training camp. He finished last season playing in only 40 games due to multiple injuries, but the Mavericks still felt comfortable enough to give him a contract extension for the next four seasons. The Mavericks have also been shopping around for a veteran point guard to add to the roster, but again Harris, will have the upper hand out of the gate.

News: The Dallas Mavericks have signed Jefferson as a possible replacement for Vince Carter off the bench.
Impact: Terms of the contract announced Monday weren't released, but it is reportedly a one-year deal for the veteran minimum of $1.4 million. Jefferson started 78 games for Utah last year but figures to be used as a 3-point threat coming off the bench. That was the role last season for Carter, who signed with Memphis as a free agent. The 34-year-old Jefferson has averaged 14.5 points and 4.5 rebounds over his 13-year career.

News: Ledo contributed 15 points (6-13 FG, 1-5 3Pt, 2-3 FT), four rebounds, nine assists, and two steals in 27 minutes during the Mavericks' 88-62 win versus the Suns at the Las Vegas Summer League on Friday.
Impact: Ledo averaged 15.4 points (32.4 FG, 37.0 3Pt, 71.9 FT), 3.8 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.4 steals in five summer league games. He did commit 3.6 turnovers and shoot an uninspiring field-goal percentage, but overall, he wasn't bad this summer. Still, he's likely to remain buried on the Mavericks' depth chart in 2014-15.

News: Griffin has signed a non-guaranteed one-year deal with Dallas.
Impact: The 6-foot-8 Griffin played last preseason with the Miami Heat before going overseas. He is playing for the Mavericks summer league team in Las Vegas and averaged 9.8 points while playing 19.3 minutes in the first four games. Since two seasons at Campbell University (2010-12), Griffin has played professionally in Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Italy. In 60 games at Campbell, he averaged 14.5 points and 7.8 rebounds.

News: Mekel averaged 11.5 points (53.1 FG, 40.0 3Pt, 71.4 FT), 4.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 0.2 steals in 28 minutes per game during four games at the Las Vegas Summer League.
Impact: Mekel was efficient as the starting point guard in summer league play, shooting well from the field while committing only 1.5 turnovers per game. Still, he's unlikely to earn a sufficient role with the Mavericks in 2014-15 with Devin Harris and Raymond Felton currently ahead of him on the projected depth chart.
Wed. July 16, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Mekel contributed 17 points (5-7 FG, 1-2 3Pt, 6-9 FT), five rebounds, and six assists in 30 minutes during the Mavericks' 82-81 loss versus the Hornets at the Las Vegas Summer League on Wednesday.
Impact: Mekel started at point guard and had his best showing of the summer league thus far. However, with Devin Harris and Raymond Felton in the fold, Mekel is likely to remain buried on the depth chart.

News: The Dallas Mavericks have added Lewis.
Impact: The 34-year-old Lewis is a two-time All-Star who has played 16 seasons with four teams since going straight to the NBA out of a Houston high school in the 1998 draft. He played for Seattle (1998-2007), Orlando (2007-10) and Washington (2010-12) before the last two seasons in Miami. Lewis has averaged 14.9 points and 5.2 rebounds in his 1,049 career games.

News: The Dallas Mavericks have officially signed forwards Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler Parsons.
Impact: The 36-year-old Nowitzki's contract is for three years and $30 million, with a player option for the final season. It's similar to the deal Tim Duncan signed with San Antonio two years ago. The 38-year-old Duncan recently exercised the option after the Spurs won their fifth title with him.

News: The Dallas Mavericks have officially signed forwards Dirk Nowitzki and Chandler Parsons.
Impact: Tuesday's announcement of the contracts came five days after the Mavericks signed Parsons to an offer sheet worth about $46 million over three years. Houston declined to match the offer to the 25-year-old restricted free agent.
Tue. July 15, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Nowitzki officially re-signed with the Mavericks for three years and $25 million, ESPN reports.
Impact: Nowitzki ends up taking a bigger pay cut than expected and will earn an average of just over $8 million per year. The deal pays Nowitzki overwhelmingly less than he's worth but enables the Mavs to have more cap flexibility, which allowed them to go out and sign Chandler Parsons in free agency. The veteran is determined to finish his career in Dallas and reportedly spurned max offers from both the Lakers and Rockets.

News: Chicago traded Smith to Dallas on Monday for the rights to Tadija Dragicevic.
Impact: The Bulls signed Smith in April after he was waived by Houston, but he never appeared in a game with Chicago.

News: Parsons' offer sheet was not matched by the Rockets, meaning he'll join the Mavericks, Adrian Wojnarowski of Yahoo! Sports reports.
Impact: With the Rockets declining to match the three-year, $46 million offer, Parsons will immediately step in as a starting wing for the Mavericks. The former second round pick was a key piece for the Rockets lats season, but the team signed free agent Trevor Ariza to a cheaper deal Saturday, helping to soften the blow of losing Parsons. In 74 games last season, Parsons averaged 16.6 points, 5.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists. While he's not likely to play much more than the nearly 38 minutes per game he saw in 2013-14, it's reasonable to expect Parsons' numbers to take a leap, as he's no longer the third offensive option behind James Harden and Dwight Howard. Dirk Nowitzki will still be the Mavs' go-to scorer, but Parsons should see his role as a creator significantly expanded.

News: Jefferson agreed to a one-year deal with the Mavericks on Sunday, Yahoo! Sports reports.
Impact: The 34-year-old spent last season with the Jazz, starting 78 games and averaging 10.1 points per game - his highest scoring output since the 2010-11 season. He'll come to Dallas on a minimum deal and should slot in as a vital contributor off the bench, essentially assuming the role vacated by Vince Carter. At this point in his career, Jefferson is no longer a high-flyer, but he's steadily improved as a shooter and knocked down 1.5 threes per game at a 40.9 percent clip last season.
July 13, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Mekel has been quiet through to two games in Las Vegas, averaging 9.0 points per game on 41 percent shooting.
Impact: Mekel missed a significant portion of last year with a knee injury and will need to elevate his play if he wants to see minutes in a Dallas back court laden with veterans.
July 13, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Ledo scored 21 points Saturday in a Summer League win over the Timberwolves. He connected on 5-of-8 shots from long-range.
Impact: Ledo remains a project for Dallas but could earn some minutes next season if he becoming a consistent scoring threat. He spent a majority of last team with the Mavericks' D-League affiliate.
July 13, 2014 | RotoWire
News: Smith was traded to the Mavericks, the Dallas Morning News reports.
Impact: Smith split last year between the Rockets and Bulls but missed a majority of the season with a right knee injury that ultimately required surgery. He will come off the Dallas bench behind Tyson Chandler and Brandan Wright.

News: Parsons is going to the Dallas Mavericks after the Houston Rockets decided not to match the restricted free agent's three-year offer sheet worth more than $45 million.
Impact: Parsons tweeted Sunday that he had heard from the Rockets. The 6-foot-9 small forward wrote that Houston will always have a special place in his heart and that he will never forget the memories. Parsons will be in the Dallas frontcourt with Dirk Nowitzki after playing his first three NBA seasons with the Rockets.
