Yao Ming Finally Gets His Jersey Retired In Houston

Yao Ming was a terrific center for the Houston Rockets during his tenure with the Rockets; it was time he got his jersey retired

Yao Ming is recognized as one of the best centers in NBA’s history. Ming, being 7-foot-6, definitely helps with getting easy shots around the basket and adds to his ability to get rebounds and blocks. He was such a fun player to watch during his prime because his feet would barely leave the ground to make a dunk or to attempt a shot.

Also, his ability to move up and down the court was outstanding at his figure and he just made the game look so easy.

Yao Ming had many great individual games and seasonal numbers throughout his career. His best scoring year was during the 2006-07 season, when he averaged 25 points and nine rebounds per game. Then, his best rebounding year was the 2007-08 year when he averaged 10.8 boards per game, and scored 22 points per contest.

These were solid numbers to look at because throughout his career he got better and his averages stayed roughly around 18-21 PPG. That is outstanding. Now, his last year in the NBA he only averaged 10.2 points per contest, but from his first year in 2002-03, when he started at 13.5 PPG, he went up from there: 17.5, 18.3, 22.3, 25, 22, 19.7 – up until the final year of his career.

His stats made him a good post scorer because he would just have to turn around and shoot and force the defender to reach high to try and block his shot.

Yao Ming averaged around 1-2 blocks per game throughout his career. When I first thought of Yao, I thought he would be a blocking machine at his height. I thought wrong, but 1-2 BPG is honestly not that bad at all in the NBA.

Overlooking Yao’s career, he really had a tremendous story. He was a great teammate and an even better person. During his Hall of Fame Induction speech, he said he felt that Allen Iverson should have spoken first before himself, showing fans and followers of us to recognize to past present and future players of the game. Yao Ming had a lot of respect, and he was one heck of a player!
