Thaddeus Young Will Not Play Against the Detroit Pistons Due to Wrist Sprain

Updated Mar. 5, 2020 1:48 a.m. ET

Thaddeus Young sprained his wrist during last night’s win over the Brooklyn Nets, and the Indiana Pacers will be feeling the effects.

This will be the first game missed all season long for Thaddeus Young, the Indiana Pacers’ starting power forward.

According to Pat Boylan, Thad is dealing with a badly sprained wrist with a lot of swelling. He avoided a fracture, though, when he took a tumble against the Brooklyn Nets.

Pat Boylan also tweeted that Lavoy Allen will start in place of Thaddeus.

Allen has played well since re-entering the rotation five games ago. He’s averaged 6.3 points per game on 77.7% shooting from the field.

Kevin Seraphin could enter the rotation again as Lavoy’s backup. Seraphin hasn’t played since sustaining a knee injury that kept him out for a few games. When he’s been called upon, though, he’s played fairly well.

It will be tough to produce what Thad gives the Pacers. He’s averaging 11.5 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game and 1.8 steals per game. Thad is also shooting a career-high 39.6% from deep this season. On the bright side, Allen is very versatile on the defensive end compared to Thad.

According to Nate Taylor, C.J. Miles will also see some minutes tonight at the power forward position. Miles has started for the Pacers at the shooting guard position as of late. He’s been hot and cold, but the Pacers have been successful with him in the lineup. The Pacers are 5-1 since C.J. entered the starting five on January 23rd.

The Pacers will also be without Rodney Stuckey, who missed last night’s game as well with an ankle sprain.

They take on the Detroit Pistons at 7:00 P.M. Eastern Time. Indiana has a tough schedule waiting for them, so hopefully, Thad and Rodney can be ready for those games. They’ll be playing teams like the Cleveland Cavaliers, Washington Wizards, San Antonio Spurs and Oklahoma City Thunder.
