Russell Westbrook never — I repeat never — shies away from a big shot. So it wasn’t too surprising to see the Thunder’s explosive point guard raising up for the tying three as time ran out in Oklahoma City’s deflating 103-98 loss to the Clippers on Wednesday.
But Russ went into full hero mode on his final attempt, which he took while going full speed at two defenders. Westbrook took the off-balance shot that clanged off the side of the rim and was last touched by Serge Ibaka, eventually sealing the stunning collapse.
The Thunder had led by 17 points in the fourth quarter and as many as 22 in the game. Now, Westbrook did finish with solid numbers — 24 points and 12 assists — but that last shot is what many will remember.
It’s not like Westbrook comes up big in the clutch.
