Pistons president Joe Dumars is expected to resign before next season, according to multiple reports.
Dumars, who took over as president in 2000, helped the Pistons reach the NBA Finals in back-to-back years, winning the championship in 2004.
But Dumars’ latest moves haven’t been as successful. The Pistons signed Josh Smith and Brandon Jennings to massive deals last summer, but the team hasn’t gelled, posting a 28-49 mark. The Pistons fired first-year coach Maurice Cheeks after just 50 games this season.
Dumars played his entire 14-year NBA career in Detroit, helping the Pistons win back-to-back titles in 1989-90. Dumars was named Finals MVP in 1989 and was inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006.
