The Chicago Bulls might be pulling out of the race for Carmelo Anthony.
Yahoo! Sports/FOX Sports 1 NBA Insider Adrian Wojnarowski reports the Bulls are working toward completing a deal with free-agent center Pau Gasol.
Anthony reportedly has narrowed down his choices to the New York Knicks and the Bulls, but a potential deal with Gasol would most likely use up Chicago’s salary-cap space.
Gasol has spent the past six-plus seasons with the Lakers, helping them win two championships. But Gasol had to endure one of the worst seasons in Lakers history, as injuries decimated the team, which finished 27-55. Wojnarowski reports that Gasol turned down a two-year deal worth more than $20 million from the Lakers.
Gasol would form a formidable frontline with center Joakim Noah, who was named Defensive Player of the Year in April. Both are willing passers, strong rebounders and versatile offensive threats.
