Michael Jordan still dunking at age 50
I want to say I'm surprised by this, but, look, I was born in 1983. I was almost 8 when Michael Jordan won his first NBA championship, and I was in high school when he won his last. To me, Michael Jordan is not a person. He's a concept, a concept that was essential to the world in which I grew up. He's not Michael Jordan, he's "Air Jordan" and that's the biggest difference in the world.
So what that means is that, to me, and I presume everyone else who is approximately my age, Michael Jordan will always be suspended in the air, tongue hanging out, fueled by Gatorade and styled by Nike. This is the case no matter how many times I watch his weirdly vindictive Hall of Fame speech or hear about his obsessive insecurities.
So, no, I am not surprised to see the following photo, even though I should be.
He's 50 years old, by the way. Heaven knows this man has been put on a pedestal for almost three decades, and I don't mean to contribute to that because I am ideologically opposed to it.
But would you look at this? He's still dunking.
