Flames winger Hudler came to Lakers’ shootaround fully padded to help out

The Los Angeles Lakers and Calgary Flames both were in Philadelphia on Friday, with the Lakers taking on the 76ers that night, and the Flames playing the Flyers the following day.

The teams united in an unconventional way Friday afternoon when Flames winger Jiri Hudler decided to join the Lakers’€™ shootaround. And he just so happened to be in full pads.

Flyers writer Sarah Baicker explained why Hudler was decked out in full hockey gear to Enrico Campitelli Jr.

"€œWhen NHL teams arrive in Philly early and the ice isn’€™t down at the Center, they practice at the rink at UPenn. But it’€™s a very old and crappy rink. So the players dress in the NHL visitors locker room at the Wells Fargo Center, except for their skates. Then take a bus to and from Penn."

The Lakers, who were down to four eligible players in a game at Cleveland this week, might’ve been able to use Hudler. Or not. Any aspirations to be a multi-sport star he might’ve had suffered a serious setback thanks to his apparent struggles on the basketball court. Watch him battle to even hit rim in the hilarious video below.

But it might’ve helped lighten the mood for the Lakers, who beat the 76ers 112-98.
