Charlotte Hornets backup PG Ramon Sessions tears meniscus

According to a report, Charlotte Hornets backup point guard Ramon Sessions has a meniscus tear in his left knee.

It’s been a rough couple of weeks for the Charlotte Hornets.

Though Kemba Walker was selected to his first ever NBA All-Star Game, the Hornets have lost 12 of their last 16 games, they just traded for Miles Plumlee for God only knows what reason and now, they could be without backup point guard Ramon Sessions for the foreseeable future.

According to The Charlotte Observer’s Rick Bonnell, Sessions has a meniscus tear in his left knee.

In his 50 games this season, the 30-year-old Sessions has largely struggled off the bench, averaging 6.2 points and 2.6 assists per game on 38 percent shooting from the field and 33.9 percent shooting from three-point range.

Luckily for Charlotte, Sessions was only playing 16.2 minutes a night, with head coach Steve Clifford riding Walker at the point guard position for the most part. For the time being, the Hornets will have to turn to third string point guard Brian Roberts to fill Sessions’ void.

The Hornets also just signed guard Ray McCallum, a top D-League prospect who’s played for the Sacramento Kings and San Antonio Spurs during his time in the NBA, to a 10-day contract.

Sessions wasn’t playing particularly well for the Hornets this season, but with the team in a full-on tailspin, losing him for at least a couple of weeks is yet another blow for Charlotte to deal with. Can Roberts and McCallum tag-team the backup point guard spot with Sessions out?

The Hornets had better hope so, since their recent 4-12 skid has dropped them to eighth in the Eastern Conference standings heading into Friday night’s action. After such a promising start, suddenly the playoffs are in question.
