Cause celeb: Phone dropped by Rihanna during selfie mishap nets $66K

Cracked phone signed by the singer sells on eBay for $66,500.

The now-famous selfie.

When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. When selfies get botched and cell phone screens crack, you sell them on eBay for tens of thousands of dollars.

Which is what LA Police Commission president Steve Soboroff did, when the phone accidentally dropped by singer Rihanna during a Clippers game fetched an impressive $66,500 on the auction site this week.

The singer was attempting to take a picture with LA Police Commission president Steve Soboroff during the Clippers' game against the Oklahoma City Thunder last Saturday when the superstar's fingers apparently made like butter and the cell phone fell to the floor.

Rather making a scene, Soboroff decided to auction off the phone, and the superstar agreed to sign the cover:

The phone was initially listed at $250 on May 12.

According to the item description, 100 percent of the proceeds will benefit the Los Angeles Police Foundation: half to the LAPD Cadet program, and half to the Los Angeles Police Memorial Foundation "to support the families of fallen officers. We have tragically lost five officers since March 7, 2014."

This does not include the $25,000 Rihanna promised to the LAPF after the mishap first occurred.

Lately, it seems the singer has a penchant for spinning photos into gold. Check out these meet and greet pictoral gems here
