It may not be long before NBA scouts are discouraged from tracking a prospect who can ¿create his own shot.¿ You probably noticed that such procedural hoop lingo has assumed a double-double meaning. And although we¿re in the bulls-eye of free-agency season, NBA employees allegedly are packing more than suitcases. The latest player hit with a multiple-charging foul is of the Milwaukee . ¿Big Dog¿ may have his day in a homecourt of law after being charged with a trio of crimes — domestic battery, assault and illegal possession of a firearm. I suppose this validates Robinson¿s job description of NBA ¿three¿ man. Anyway, the league¿s commitment to law and disorder has apprehended the lead position for this episode of The Weekend Condition. All of this alleged activity eventually may allow L.A. crime-solving candidate, Shaquille O¿Neal, to have obvious charging fouls overlooked as a by-product of probable cause. As for Robinson, he was released Sunday on $5,000 bail, which may push the into luxury-tax territory. But, rather than sit here typing negative remarks about NBA players, I¿m going to search for solutions. For example, instead of waving bye-bye at the end of each season, team management should remind these players that the shot clock is turned off during the summer. The ¿Star-Spangled Banner¿? It¿s a wonderful tune, but players seem to prefer checking the floor for seismic activity and their pockets for lint when the anthem is crooned before games. So, in the spirit of better-than-nothing achievement, why not hire vocalists to preface each game by singing the Miranda rights? With less loot available for high-stakes sneaker recommendations, players should consider signing endorsement deals with defense attorney Alan Dershowitz. Plea-marketing motto: ¿He Just Didn¿t Do It.¿ Or we can sit back and hope this disturbing trend quickly runs its course. In the meantime, Chicago rookie continues searching for a way to become innocent by association. With ex-New Jersey Net Jayson Williams facing a murder rap and current Memphis point guard on record for at least two social turnovers, the Duke hotshot tried the name ¿Jay Williams.¿ But, to further distance himself from the aforementioned outlaws, the young playmaker has settled on a new moniker: Jason Smith.
  • One week after throwing an off-the-hook, pre-surrender party, guard attended his own charity softball game. A.I. didn¿t play, choosing to save his softball energy for a potential trip to the witness stand. By the way, this game was contested in Camden, N.J. For the record, Iverson has another definition for a charitable event in Philly: Press conference.
  • Kansas City Chiefs tight end Tony Gonzalez still may believe in his NBA dream, but it probably won¿t be realized with the Miami . After back-to-back DNPs with the ¿s Summer Pro League squad in Long Beach, Calif., Gonzalez left the team to pursue other options. One option is Chiefs training camp. And Tony — at 6-foot-5, 250 pounds — is a bit short to perform as an NBA power forward, but may be the best pass-catcher at his position in the NFL. That probably doesn¿t mean much to Miami coach Pat Riley. Judging from the ¿s style of play, it¿s obvious that Pat prefers a blocking tight end.
  • superstar recently made a pickup-game appearance at New York¿s legendary Rucker Park. According to a league source, Kobe¿s street-ball pit stop was motivated by a desire to improve his outside touch.
  • Sacramento star competed in a celebrity golf tournament at Tahoe and finished with a memorable 265 over par. For C-Webb, who¿s not to be confused with Carrie, the silver lining is a lead role in an upcoming film produced by NBA Entertainment. The working title is ¿Caddy Shaq.¿

    BRITISH OPEN

  • Tiger Woods tripped during his run for golf¿s quadruple crown by firing a round of 81 on Saturday at Muirfield. It was the first time Tiger was higher above par than a network-sponsored blimp. But on Sunday, golfing right-handed again, Tiger reached par for the event with a toasty round of 65.
  • In spite of a few late misfires, the B.O. championship was annexed by South Africa¿s Ernie Els. Ernie, who looks like what might occur if the hair of actor Liam Neeson has a run-in with Dennis Rodman, survived a four-man playoff and a two-way sudden death. According to inside sources, the world¿s third-ranked golfer has a name for his shot-twisting alter ego: Els Nino.

    NFL

  • With the July sun in mid-season form, the expansion Houston Texans and exfoliated San Francisco 49ers were the first teams to launch their training camps. The NFL — with a mandate that all players are properly hydrated — is hoping the salary cap keeps the entire league watered down.

    TOUR DE FRANCE

  • Three-time defending champ Lance Armstrong continued to lead after the 14th stage, but Sunday¿s effort was accompanied by taunts from roadside fans. Many of these French hecklers are motivated by the belief that the American idol uses performance-enhancing drugs. Touche. Americans suspect that drugs are a factor in France¿s fascination with Jerry Lewis.

    BOXING

  • WBC welterweight champion Vernon Forrest scored a unanimous-decision victory in Saturday¿s rematch with Shane Mosley. According to hit-and-miss statistics from this hugfest at Indy¿s Conseco Fieldhouse, Mosley landed 44 percent of his punches, while Forrest landed 27 percent. If they held this fight at ¿Canseco¿ Fieldhouse, those percentages may have been as high as 85.

    BASEBALL

  • Torii Hunter¿s retaliatory fastball that hit the pitcher who had just hit him, has earned a three-game suspension, but the Twins center fielder will not miss his start in the rotation.
  • During a Saturday matinee on FOX, the chin of Dodgers first baseman Eric Karros absorbed a 97 mph fastball from Giants reliever Felix Rodriguez. Karros considered hurling the ball back at Rodriguez, but couldn¿t find it in his 12 o¿clock shadow. By hitting Karros, the Giants were seeking payback for Eric¿s Friday-night triple that resulted in a hamstring injury for left fielder Barry Bonds. This was a strategic departure for the Dodgers, who generally wait until Barry bats before playing him to pull.
  • The pitching-challenged St. Louis Cardinals upgraded their post-season bid by acquiring left-hander Chuck Finley from the Cleveland Indians. Finley, a career American League war horse, still has decent velocity and good command of his pitches. But baseball insiders believe Chuck gave up on his screwball when he filed for divorce.
