The Dolphins are battling with the Packers to sign free agent safety Sammy Knight. The Herald's Jason Cole reports that after the Packers offered Knight a contract, the Dolphins stepped up and did the same. Knight is expected to sign for the league minimum.

The Post's Kevin Goheen reports that the agent for Dallas free agent defensive end Peppi Zellner will meet with the Bengals today. The Bengals are looking to bolster their defensive line by signing either Zellner or Kansas City's Duane Clemons. The Bengals will have to battle the Redskins for Zellner's services, while the Cardinals are eyeing Clemens.

Retirement may be good to Jamir Miller. Plain Dealer columnist Roger Brown writes that if Miller decides to 'retire', he should be well rested and healthy enough in 2004 to secure a much better deal than the one the Browns are currently offering him.

The Sun-Sentinel's Alex Marvez reports that Dolphins quarterbacks coach Mike Shula is still waiting to hear from university officials if he will be the next coach at Alabama. The Crimson Tide are expected to hire either Shula, the Packers' Sylvester Croom or the Panthers' Richard Williamson.
