Ex-basketball star arrested after chase

Ex-basketball player Sean Banks arrested for burglary after high-speed chase.

A former NBA player was one of four people arrested in New Jersey after a burglary and high-speed chase, a television station reported Saturday.

Sean Banks, who signed a free-agent deal with the New Orleans Hornets out of the University of Memphis in 2005, was in a vehicle stopped for speeding by a Sparta police officer, WABC reported. When the officer approached the vehicle, the suspects sped off.

A high-speed chase ensued, and the suspects’ vehicle flipped and crashed. The four inside were trapped.

According to the report, police recovered more than $20,000 worth of valuables, suspected to have been taken in two burglaries.

Banks was chosen Conference USA Freshman of the Year in 2004 but left school the next year after being ruled academically ineligible. He has not appeared in an NBA regular-season game but has spent four seasons in the NBA D-Leagues. He also has played professionally in Puerto Rico.
