We hope that the are not resting their hopes on ' shoulders to bring them to a playoff level next season. At this point, you just gotta feel for dudes like McNasty and . Nothing is going right. Although Scott Layden and the are doing their best to spin it into a positive thing, will need more surgery on his knee cap and may not be ready for the start of next season. The are saying that this will get McDyess to a point where he won't have to worry about the knee long term and that he should be able to return to prime-time form. We are finding all of Layden's jargon hard to believe, but we hope for the best for the one-time electric above-the-rim young power forward. Very strange situation going down in Texas. T.J. Ford was injured on Wednesday while playing pick-up. The reports are that Ford was dribbling up the court when he was slapped on the back of his neck. The Texas guard fell hard and appeared immobile. An ambulance rushed TJ to the hospital, where he had an MRI on Thursday that came out negative. TJ is fine and just sustained a small stinger. The story was originally dealt with in a secretive way that led to speculation that the injury could be very serious. Some people were saying things like "doesn't appear to be career threatening." The hospital quickly got rid of reporters and the school cited privacy acts instead of making a statement, enticing a number of rumors about the star point guard. If healthy, we expect Ford to spend a lot of long hours debating the decision whether to declare. Although T.J. originally stated he would return to school, he has since backed off that statement after hearing that he was predicted to be drafted anywhere from 4-to-6, and we now hear he is leaning towards entering the draft. The St. Bonaventure fallout is official. The Bonnies fired coach Jan van Breda Kolff yesterday and the athletic director, Gothard Lane, resigned. It is all good, though. Who knew if they were even going to show up for work anyway? So where was MJ on his first day of retirement? He checked out his own All-Star Game in D.C. The Brand Jordan Capital Classic was the live hoop highlight of last night, and LeBron James did his best to make it stand out. In front of MJ, King James dropped 34 points, 12 boards and six assists in a losing effort. The winning squad was led by Michigan State recruit Shannon Brown, who had 27 points and eight assists. MJ did a little more than just watch the game. He gave a talk to both teams before the contest about how to handle the business and off-the-court aspects of being a famous baller. ... By playing in the game, James basically declared for the draft. That was his third All-Star Game and NCAA regulations only allow two. So just in case you didn't know, now it's official. The Kansas basketball team had it's annual awards banquet last night, except this year was a little different. This was more like the Roy Williams farewell banquet. Although Williams did get one fan yelling out "Traitor," Williams received a standing ovation for what he has brought the program the last 15 years. Lenny Wilkins resigned from the about 8.2 seconds before they could say "you're fired." Wilkens stated that he still has the urge to coach and we expect that after a little time off, Wilken's will be adding more losses than wins to his record numbers. The NBA released the top selling jerseys for this past season and it is now a fact, Kobe has had a sick season. Kobe's jersey topped the sales chart, followed by AI, T-Mac, MJ, and .. Get off Dee Brown. Dee has been trying to have a drunk driving charge reversed since 1999, accusing the Toronto police of racial profiling him. Yesterday, the courts overturned the conviction, saying that Brown was racially profiled and that the arrest was unconstitutional. We were doing that remote flipping thing that good men do and we came upon WWE Smackdown and for a second we thought we had traveled back in time because Jimmy Super Fly Snucka was in the ring with Rowdy Roddy Piper. Charles Barkley was hyping the playoffs on the Jay Leno show last night. Chuck as always was hysterical, but we couldn't help noticing that he has gotten enormous. He is definitely the round mound of something. ... We don't need Barkley to get us fired up for the playoffs. Saturday will be a great day. We're out like the ' off-season hope.
