NBA Power Rankings: Week 21

Jimmy Spencer

WEEK#
Posted March 26, 2014 05:30 PM EDT

The final 10 games of the season are upon us, and there’s still plenty of juice left in some of these season-long storylines. There are big moves in the rankings this week, as the Pacers’ and Heat’s mediocrity has finally dumped them below five of West’s top squads. That power they’ve held all season appears lost — for now at least.

The West still belongs to San Antonio, but as the rankings show there is plenty of competition in the league’s much superior conference. With the continued tumble of the Trail Blazers, it’s become a five-team race with the Warriors, Grizzlies, Suns and Mavericks for the bottom four West playoff spots.

Note: NBA rankings are updated each week before Wednesday's games.

Your NCAA bracket is dead, but don't make the same mistakes with your NBA bracket. Forget the seeding and pay attention to what's trending: Memphis has the most wins of any team in the league since Jan. 14, when Marc Gasol returned.

The Warriors are 17 games over .500 and the franchise continues to climb. But it isn’t that simple. The West has never been tougher and Golden State will be in the bottom half of the playoffs if they make it. This team was built to contend for at least the West Finals, but the recent home loss to the Spurs and a 17-21 record vs. teams .500 or above may be signs of a quick postseason. Collapse Description

Kyle Lowry is the league's MVP this season — of all the guys who did not make an All-Star roster. He continues to be a symbol of the underdog Raptors, as he impresses despite not being at full force. He may need to rest a bit before the playoffs though.

The Blazers aren't safe. For a team that's lost nine of its last 13 games, it's very much a possibility that Portland loses its current 2.5-game lead on No. 9 Phoenix. Not making the playoffs would be a monumental collapse and it’s becoming more likely.
