News: Smith signed a one-year, $3.3 million contract with the Knicks on Tuesday, RealGM.com reports. Impact: Smith started 27 of the 31 games he featured in for the Pelicans last season before cartilage damage in his right ended his campaign in mid-January. Before the injury, Smith averaged 9.7 points and career-highs in both rebounds (5.8) and minutes (26.8). While Smith has not played more than 51 games since the 2010-11 season, at 7-0, 240 pounds, he offers the Knicks size and shooting at the center position. With Tyson Chandler being traded last month, Samuel Dalembert figures to be Smith's primary competition for New York's starting center, although Amar'e Stoudemire and Andrea Bargnani should factor in as well.(RotoWire, )
