News: Smith signed a one-year contract with the Rockets on Thursday, Yahoo! Sports reports. Impact: Although Isaiah Canaan has a year in the Rockets' system, Smith is the frontrunner to replace Jeremy Lin as Patrick Beverley's primary backup point guard. With four NBA seasons under his belt, Smith is coming off the highest usage of his career, after averaging 3.7 points (on 42.3 percent shooting), a career-best 2.6 assists, 1.8 rebounds, and 0.7 steals in 14 minutes across 70 games with the Suns.(RotoWire, )

News: Smith was waived by the Suns on Tuesday, the Suns' official site reports. Impact: Smith played a reserve role behind Goran Dragic and Eric Bledsoe in 2013-14, and with the recent addition of Isaiah Thomas, his playing time was on the verge of becoming even more limited. It's definitely possible he'll wind up earning a roster spot with another team, but unless he's able to earn a more sufficient role he's unlikely to hold too much value in standard leagues.(RotoWire, )

News: The Phoenix Suns have waived Smith, reducing the crowd the team has at point guard. Impact: Smith appeared in 70 games in his one season with the Suns, averaging 3.7 points and 2.6 assists in 14.4 minutes per game. Acquired from Milwaukee in August of last year, Smith played for his sixth NBA team in Phoenix. He became expendable when the Suns acquired Isaiah Thomas from Sacramento. (STATS, 5:55pm)
