NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31388566 Washington Wizards Washington+Wizards NBA

Best case: Surrounded by more mature teammates, point guard John Wall (pictured) blossoms into a star and leads the Wizards on a playoff chase. Big men Emeka Okafor and Nene create matchup problems for the Heat in the first round.

Worst case: Wall proves he was a reason for – and not a victim of – Washington's knucklehead culture last season. He doesn't progress as a player or leader, while a weak bench dooms the Wizards if they have a few injuries.

NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31388567 Utah Jazz Utah+Jazz NBA

Best case: Utah overpowers opponents with its inside game. Al Jefferson and Paul Millsap combine for nearly 40 points and 20 rebounds per game, while backups Derrick Favors and Enes Kanter also emerge as productive big men. Improved outside shooting lets the Jazz scare a West power in the first round.

Worst case: New point guard Mo Williams (pictured) prefers launching threes to pounding the ball inside. Marvin Williams shows why the Hawks gave up on him and the Jazz start working on their golf games in April.

NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31388568 Toronto Raptors Toronto+Raptors NBA

Best case: DeMar DeRozan adds some range to his jumper and becomes a dependable 20-point scorer. Rookie big man Jonas Valanciunas (pictured) forms a potent front line with Andrea Bargnani, while Kyle Lowry and rookie Terrence Jones provide backcourt punch. The eighth seed in the East is a possibility.

Worst case: Lowry isn't any happier in Canada than he was in Houston. The rookies aren't ready to produce and Toronto fans beg for an end to the NHL lockout.

NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31391433 San Antonio Spurs San+Antonio+Spurs+ NBA

Best case: The NBA's best team for much of last season again secures the No. 1 seed as drama envelops the Lakers and pressure gets to the Thunder. Tim Duncan (left), Manu Ginobili (right) and Tony Parker remain fresh enough to win their fourth title together with help from emerging star Kawhi Leonard.

Worst case: Age catches up to Duncan, 36, and Ginobili, 35. San Antonio falls in the first round and we can finally stick a fork in the Spurs.

Best case: LaMarcus Aldridge (right) continues to progress into a top-10 player, Nic Batum joins him on the All-Star team and Damian Lillard wins Rookie of the Year. J.J. Hickson leads an improved bench as Portland stays in the playoff hunt.

Worst case: Lillard and fellow rookie Meyers Leonard aren't ready to play major roles and the Blazers remain in rebuilding mode after the devastating injuries to Greg Oden and Brandon Roy.

NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31391427 Phoenix Suns Phoenix+Suns NBA

Best case: Goran Dragic (center) capably replaces Steve Nash and runs the pick-and-roll effectively with big men Marcin Gortat (left) and Luis Scola (right). Michael Beasley and Wesley Johnson suddenly become mature and dependable as Phoenix fights for a playoff spot.

Worst case: The Suns miss Grant Hill's defense and Channing Frye's 3-point shooting as they continue their descent. We also find out that it wasn't Phoenix's system that made Steve Nash great; it was vice versa.

NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31391426 Philadelphia 76ers Philadelphia+76ers NBA

Best case: Andrew Bynum (pictured) gets healthy, relishes his role as go-to guy and puts the franchise on his back. Jrue Holiday continues to progress into an elite point guard and helps get the most out of talented wings Evan Turner, Nick Young, Thaddeus Young and Jason Richardson. A blend of power and speed gets Philly into the East finals.

Worst case: Because of bad knees and immaturity, Bynum isn't reliable. Philly regresses into a selfish team with no identity and misses the playoffs altogether.

NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31388564 Orlando Magic Orlando+Magic NBA

Best case: Orlando will stink without Dwight Howard. There's no getting around that. But now that the Dwight-mare is over, the Magic can relax and have fun again. A capable backcourt of Jameer Nelson and Arron Afflalo gives them a chance to win 25 games, then they win the lottery and draft the next Dwight Howard.

Worst case: With Glen Davis (pictured) as their primary inside threat, the Magic can't score, can't defend and become one of the worst teams in NBA history. They get unlucky in the lottery and draft the next Daniel Orton.

NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31388565 Oklahoma City Thunder Oklahoma+City+Thunder NBA

Best case: Kevin Durant (left) and Russell Westbrook (right), 24 and 23 years old respectively, keep improving as Durant becomes more physical and Westbrook makes better decisions. Serge Ibaka, 23, also develops his offensive game and Kevin Martin comes up bigger in the Finals than James Harden did.

Worst case: The Harden trade disrupts the cohesiveness and camaraderie of the franchise. Westbrook decides he needs to shoot more and wear even more outrageous clothes. The Lakers and Heat, who both improved in the offseason, are simply too good for the Thunder to handle.

Steve Dykes - USA TODAY Sports http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2012/10/24/102412-NBA-G21_20121024194917323_600_400.JPG http://static.foxsports.com/content/fscom/img/2012/10/24/102412-NBA-G21_20121024194917323_107_80.JPG
NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31388559 New York Knicks New+York+Knicks NBA

Best case: Not only do Amar'e Stoudemire (left) and Carmelo Anthony (right) mesh on offense, combining for 50 points per game, they discover pride in rebounding and defense. Point guards Raymond Felton and Jason Kidd keep everyone happy and the Knicks reach the East finals for the first time since Patrick Ewing retired.

Worst case: The Knicks are the same dysfunctional mess they were most of last season. Anthony gets most of the blame and falls into a funk. The ancient supporting cast crumbles and owner James Dolan rehires Isiah Thomas to right the ship.

NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31391420 New Orleans Hornets New+Orleans+Hornets NBA

Best case: No. 1 overall pick Anthony Davis (pictured) is a star right off the bat, leading the league in blocks and showing more offensive skills than he displayed at Kentucky. Austin Rivers also proves he's an NBA-ready rookie, while Eric Gordon and Ryan Anderson provide enough offense to put New Orleans in the playoff race.

Worst case: Davis, 19, gets pushed around on both ends of the court and the rest of the young lineup is simply too raw to compete in the rugged Western Conference.

Best case: New acquisitions Brandon Roy and Andrei Kirilenko keep the Wolves afloat while stars Ricky Rubio (left) and Kevin Love (right) recover from injuries. Derrick Williams breaks out in his second season and Minnesota shocks a West power in the first round.

Worst case: Roy's knees keep him from producing and the Wolves are hopelessly behind once Rubio and Love are back. Even at full strength, they're not good enough on defense to win consistently.

Best case: Monta Ellis (pictured) and Brandon Jennings form the highest-scoring backcourt in the NBA, while Sam Dalembert, John Henson and Joel Przybilla protect the rim well enough to secure a playoff spot.

Worst case: Ellis and Jennings give up more points than any backcourt in the NBA. They also don't pass the ball to Ersan Ilyasova, who may be Milwaukee's best all-around player, and the new big men have more fouls than points.

Best case: The Big Three's chemistry only gets better as LeBron James (right) and Dwyane Wade (left) keep meshing their ridiculous talents. Chris Bosh (center) holds his own defensively at center while creating matchup problems on offense. The Heat are devastating in transition, lethal from 3-point range with Ray Allen and storm to a repeat title in dominating fashion.

Worst case: LeBron seems strangely satisfied with one ring, Wade enters a decline phase and injuries take their toll on a veteran supporting cast. The Heat lose to a bigger team like the Lakers or Pacers, or a hungrier team like the Thunder.

Best case: Mike Conley and Tony Allen form the best defensive backcourt in the league. The Grizzlies feed Marc Gasol (pictured) and Zach Randolph down low and power their way to the conference finals.

Worst case: Griffin fails to refine his game and Odom still seems uninterested in playing basketball. Grant Hill, 40, and Chauncey Billups, 36, can't stay healthy and Paul thinks hard about leaving LA next summer.

Iguodala's defense shuts down Kobe Bryant in the playoffs and Denver shocks the Lakers.

Best case: Joe Johnson (left) and Deron Williams (right) form the most lethal backcourt in the league, Brook Lopez provides a consistent inside threat and Brooklyn's Barclays Center becomes a much cooler scene than Madison Square Garden. East finals are a possibility.

Worst case: Nets owner Mikhail Prokhorov doesn't get much bang for his buck ($330 million in new contracts), Kris Humphries starts dating a different Kardashian and Jay-Z sells his share of the team to Justin Bieber.

NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31387771 Chicago Bulls Chicago+Bulls NBA

Best case: The Bulls, who went 18-9 without Derrick Rose (pictured) last season, survive his knee injury with stellar defense and balanced scoring. Rose then returns around the All-Star break and leads a charge to a conference title.

Worst case: Rose's extended absence sucks some life out of the franchise and the 2011 MVP lacks explosiveness when he returns. Luol Deng struggles with his shot again after forgoing offseason wrist surgery and Bulls fans put the "boo!" in Carlos Boozer.

NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31387774 Boston Celtics Boston+Celtics NBA

Best case: Kevin Garnett (pictured) becomes the best center in the East, as he was in the 2012 playoffs, while Jeff Green makes a successful return from heart surgery. The improved bench helps Boston's aging stars stay fresh for one more championship run.

Worst case: Garnett, Paul Pierce and Jason Terry, all 35 or older, break down, forcing Rajon Rondo to become more of a scorer than a passer. Darko Milicic gets a disturbing amount of playing time and the Celtics finally fade off into the sunset.

NBA 73 43 Best case/worst case scenario for every NBA team 31387773 Atlanta Hawks Atlanta+Hawks NBA

Best case: Josh Smith (pictured) matures into a team leader and makes his first All-Star team. Al Horford stays healthy, the Hawks reach the second round and Dwight Howard signs with his hometown team as a free agent next summer.

Worst case: Smith sulks and starts launching 3-pointers. Atlanta misses Joe Johnson's reliable offense (but not his contract) and also misses the playoffs.
