Embiid, as expected, will get Saturday's game against the Raptors off for rest, as he has yet to be cleared for back-to-backs, Jake Pavorsky of NJ.com reports.
The 76ers will continue to be cautious with their star big man, who has played in just 33 NBA games since being drafted back in 2014. In his absence, Amir Johnson will probably absorb a significant chunk of his minutes at center. Dario Saric could also slide up to the position for small stretches, as coach Brett Brown noted he might do throughout the season. There is still the possibility that Jahlil Okafor sees the floor as well, though it would be ideal to get an official confirmation on that before deploying him in DFS.
Embiid scored 11 points (4-16 FG, 0-6 3Pt, 3-3 FT) while adding 14 rebounds, three assists, two blocks and a steal in 28 minutes during Friday's 102-92 loss to the Celtics.
He's now 0-for-10 from beyond the arc through two games, but otherwise Embiid has been providing some solid numbers to kick off his second NBA campaign. The Sixers will continue to be cautious with the big man's workload, but the 23-year-old is showing he can make a fantasy impact even without 30-plus minutes of court time a night.
Joel Embiid scored 11 points Friday, going 4 of 16 from the field, as the Philadelphia 76ers lost to the Boston Celtics 102-92. Embiid grabbed 14 rebounds and had three assists, accumulating a plus-minus of -4 in his 28:02 on the floor. He added two blocks and one steal. Embiid struggled from 3-point range, coming up empty on all six of his attempts.
Embiid has yet to be cleared to play on consecutive days due to previous issues with his left knee and his right foot, so he'll sit out Saturday's game at Toronto. The standout young center missed his first two NBA seasons recovering from foot surgeries, and the Sixers have plenty invested in him. He signed a five-year, $148 million extension during the preseason.
Though he will play Friday against Boston, Embiid (rest) will sit out Saturday's game against the Raptors.
Embiid says he has not been cleared to play both games of a back-to-back. Fortunately for his fantasy owners, the 76ers don't have another one until the final two days of November.
Embiid will be held out of Saturday's game against the Raptors, Keith Pompey of the Philadelphia Inquirer reports.
As expected, the Sixers will continue to handle Embiid with caution, and that means holding him out of one-half of back-to-back sets. Expect Embiid to again play roughly 20-25 minutes Friday, as was the case in Wednesday's season-opener against Washington, before taking a seat Saturday, which will provide him with two full days off before Monday's matchup with the Pistons in Detroit.
