Giles will not play until at least January while he rehabs his surgically repaired knees.
Giles, the 20th overall pick out of Duke, missed summer league to rest his left knee. The team said Friday he will work with the training staff to build strength and endurance. He will participate in some ''controlled'' parts of practice. Giles had an arthroscopic procedure on his left knee last October after a ligament tear during high school in 2013. He also tore a ligament in his right knee in 2015.
Giles (knee) is being held out of game action until January in order to "improve physical strength in his surgically repaired knees", Sean Cunningham of ABC 10 Sacramento reports.
It sounds as if the Kings' medical staff is opting to play it safe with Giles, who has had several knee surgeries since high school and is still just 19-years-old. There's seemingly no reason to rush him back onto the court with the team quite a longshot to make the postseason, as he'll have plenty of time to potentially make an impact in the future. He hasn't suffered a setback, so this is all just precautionary to make sure his body is ready for the tough 82-game grind of the NBA season. He wasn't projected to make a fantasy impact this season, however, so this news doesn't change too much. Even in keeper formats, it's hard to imagine this news has much bearing on the fantasy landscape.
Giles is going through bilateral knee rehabilitation and has been ruled out for Monday's preseason opener against the Spurs, Jason Jones of the Sacramento Bee reports.
The 20th overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft fell down draft boards due to injury concerns, so it's not overly surprising that he'll be held out of Monday's contest. It's unclear if the Kings are just limiting his reps early on or if he's dealing with some discomfort still, but he should continue to have his status updated throughout the preseason. Giles likely isn't a factor in anything but dynasty leagues for fantasy purposes.
