We've known since at least February that Kobe Bryant would receive the "Michael Jordan treatment" from Nike, with new signature shoes releasing despite the Black Mamba's retirement. On Tuesday, Nike and Kobe unveiled the "Kobe A.D.," the first kicks in the post-career line for the Lakers legend.
Here's your first look at the Kobe A.D., which will release Nov. 21 and retail for $160.
"Mamba Mentality" continues
“Even though I am not on the court every day, there are people around the world who are helping to keep the ‘Mamba Mentality’ alive,” says Bryant, via Nike.com.
Greatness is in the soul of Kobe Bryant
“I have seen it in basketball, football and with everyday individuals who are working to be better and are committed to being great.”
Zoom Air > regular air
Per Nike.com: "Combining a Zoom Air unit in the heel, Lunarlon foam in the midsole and a minimal rubber outsole (with micro-tread traction), the shoe provides responsive, flexible cushioning and maximum court feel."
Dynamic Flywire helps you lock down opponents
"A breathable mesh upper with incorporated Dynamic Flywire ensures lock down for quick changes of direction toward the basket or to cover an opponent."
The Kobe A.D.
From the side, the newest Kobe shoe is a clear evolution from the Kobe X and Kobe XI. The silhouette is similar while bringing a distinct edge, particularly in the outsole and, most noticeably, the heel.
The DNA helix on the back of the left shoe is a nice touch, too.
