Ryan Newman reflects on Phoenix win, blistering hot day

Published Mar. 20, 2017 10:39 a.m. ET

It was a blistering hot day in the Phoenix desert as Ryan Newman ended a 127-race winless streak by grabbing victory in the Camping World 500.

Newman hadn't won a race since the Brickyard 400 in 2013. It was an equally long streak for his team owner Richard Childress.

RCR's last win came 112 races ago when Kevin Harvick won at Phoenix in the fall 2013 race.

Add in the 157 races Newman's crew chief Luke Lambert had gone without a win and a lot of streaks were ended on Sunday.

A physically spent Newman talked to FOX NASCAR's Chris Myers and Michael Waltrip following his win.

Check out his thoughts on his first win in nearly four years and how he managed the brutal heat of a 96-degree record high.
