NASCAR team owner Rick Hendrick did something unusual Friday afternoon: He raised money for one of his sponsors.

But it was all for a good cause.

Hendrick was in South Florida Friday, specifically at the 12th annual Barrett-Jackson Palm Beach Collector Car Auction, where he auctioned off the first retail production 2015 Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, VIN N0. 001, for an eye-popping $500,000.

Every penny of that money will go to the AARP's Drive To End Hunger program, which sponsors the No. 24 Hendrick Motorsports NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chevrolet SS driven by four-time series champion Jeff Gordon.

The buyer was Dave Flynn of the Flynn Automotive Group in Youngstown, Ohio.

Hendrick himself is expected to purchase the first 2015 Chevrolet Z06 Corvette Stingray, which will cross the block at Barrett-Jackson on Saturday.
