Sports world reacts to Leffler's death

NASCAR driver Jason Leffler dies after wreck at New Jersey dirt track: Twitter reaction.

The NASCAR world was stunned with the news that veteran racer Jason Leffler died Wednesday night after a crash of his sprint car in a non-sanctioned race at Bridgeport (NJ) Speedway.

According to the Associated Press, Leffler, 37, crashed at the 5/8-mile, high-banked dirt track and was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 9 p.m. ET. Shortly after that, NASCAR issued a statement.

“NASCAR extends its thoughts, prayers and deepest sympathies to the family of Jason Leffler who passed away earlier this evening. For more than a decade, Jason was a fierce competitor in our sport and he will be missed,” the statement read.

Reaction in the racing community on Twitter was swift, as well.
