Top contenders in the Pocono 500
Jeff Gordon: No. 24, Sign: Leo
Even though Jeff ended his last race well within the top 10, it looks like he's been suffering from self-doubt all week. This feeling comes from a heightening of awareness and is likely to be with him for a little while longer. Jeff might want to try some new challenges; like maybe taking up a new sport, or one that he used to enjoy, so he can see that he's still got what it takes to succeed.
    Sunday's rating: 4 out of 5
Dale Jarrett: No. 88, Sign: Sagittarius
Dale may find advice from others at the track almost deafening and may not be in the mood for it. But — and it's a pretty big but — if he can slip out of character for a minute and listen, he might just hear something that he can use to his advantage. In fact, he may hear the very thing that, barring some occasional NASCAR mayhem, could place him even better than last week.
    Sunday's rating: 4 out of 5
Ryan Newman: No. 12, Sign: Sagittarius
Ryan will have done well in the warm-up races leading to Sunday's competition, and his can-do attitude of earlier in the week is most likely to be paying dividends. The race itself should find him energetically all over the track and either dominating or waiting in a position to do so. Failing the unexpected, he should match last week's performance.
    Sunday's rating: 4 out of 5
Ricky Rudd: No. 28, Sign: Virgo
Ricky would be advised to stretch himself a bit to keep up Sunday, stopping just short of overconfidence. There are likely to be moves that he could make, or just think about making that will change the outcome of his race. It would be helpful for him to realize that it's grab-the-bull-by-the-horns time, and overlook his self-critical personal full moon and just put the pedal to the metal.
    Sunday's rating: 4 out of 5
Tony Stewart: No. 20, Sign: Taurus/Gemini cusp
It looks like Tony may still be suffering from a combination of feeling emotionally groggy and like a giant slayer all this week and into next. This feeling has been with him for 10 days now — hanging over him like a cloud. However, there is a gap in this weather pattern from Saturday afternoon to Sunday afternoon, and, if he can get enough lift under his wings, he might just climb above it.
    Sunday's rating: 4 out of 5
Jeff Burton: No. 99, Sign: Cancer
Jeff needs to be on his toes even more than usual for one of NASCAR's fastest tracks. This race could test his patience to the hilt, as the day will be more friction than cooperation — even his own teammates are likely to get in his way. Last week's successes might be harder for him to achieve this Sunday, and a few preparatory hours in a Zen garden on Saturday would not go amiss.
    Sunday's rating: 3.5 out of 5
Dale Earnhardt Jr.: No. 8, Sign: Libra
There has been a repetitive cycle in Dale's life over the last couple of weeks and it's not a particularly comfortable one. One day he's all aches and pains and the next he's ready to take on all comers. Friday finds Dale feeling that he may not be following his destiny; on Saturday he'll be ready to take on the world, and Sunday he should be careful that a rough-and-ready solution doesn't lead to some rule bending.
    Sunday's rating: 3 out of 5
Bill Elliott: No. 9, Sign: Libra
Bill might need to push himself out of the hero mode, following last week's top three finish. As he readies for Sunday's race, he is likely to forget that what looks like effortless skill only comes with a tremendous amount of effort. He can expect plenty of attention, but he will enjoy it all the more if he pushes himself onto even greater success. His race could be fraught with an unreliable energy.
    Sunday's rating: 3 out of 5
Bobby Labonte: No. 18, Sign: Taurus
If Bobby can pace himself and remain steady throughout the race, this could be a better day than last week. It would be helpful for him to see this race as the marathon that it is, and not necessarily just sit back, but maybe rearrange his game plan for a sprint finish. Sunday finds him in the middle of a most unusual astrological event and this could well add surreal elements to his race.
    Sunday's rating: 3 out of 5
Sterling Marlin: No. 40, Sign: Cancer
This week finds Sterling preparing to take his skills to new heights, and he will arrive at the track in the mood to take complete charge. He may even succeed, but it is more likely that he might go for a few gaps that haven't opened up yet, only to find that they don't. It might be to his advantage to wait another week or two before he attempts to regain his skill levels of earlier in the season.
    Sunday's rating: 3 out of 5
Rusty Wallace: No. 2, Sign: Leo
Sunday's race might just get to Rusty on an emotional level. Not that he's been doing badly, but more a case of just not being happy with his performance lately. It might be time for him to loosen up those stiff joints by paying a visit to the local disco and doing the "funky chicken." Anything stronger than lemonade is out though, as we're talking about healing a damaged psyche.
    Sunday's rating: 3 out of 5
Kevin Harvick: No. 29, Sign: Sagittarius
Kevin may be having some control issues in his off-the-track life right now, and that might push him to inadvertently try too hard or not hard enough on Sunday. It might help him to take stock of where his training has been going over the last few weeks, but not be too hard on himself. There is still a good chance that, with the right attitude, he could be firing on all cylinders.
    Sunday's rating: 2.5 out of 5
Matt Kenseth: No. 17, Sign: Pisces
Last week was not one of Matt's most enjoyable races because of a major astrological influence that will still be with him on the track this Sunday. He may consider a review of his whole training program, focusing on what is lessening his effectiveness and then realigning those parts for greater success. The good news is there's a temporary gap for him to succeed in this week's race.
    Sunday's rating: 2.5 out of 5
