Roush Rookie Watch: Finishing strong
It's been a pretty quiet month so far with only two weekends of racing since my last diary. I ran the Busch and Cup races in Kansas to start off the month. I had a great Busch car and was running 11th when I got caught in someone else's accident and spent about 40 laps in the garage so the team could repair the right front of the car. That was disappointing since I had a car capable of a top-10 finish. The Cup race the next day went OK. I ran the entire race and gained a lot of valuable experience. I finished 32nd which isn't what I had hoped for, but at least I brought the car home in one piece and learned a lot. The Busch Series had the following weekend off so I went home to Wisconsin for the weekend to see my family and friends and watch some local racing. It was a lot of fun to see so many of the people I used to race with back home.

I ran the Busch and Cup races again at Lowe's Motor Speedway. Once again, I had a great Busch car but didn't get the finish the 3M team deserved. With about 65 laps to go while running fourth and turning the fastest lap times on the track I started to lose horsepower. I finished the race in 18th place, and the team found a hole burned in one of the plug wires after the race ended. That was disappointing because I had a car capable of winning, but at the same time, it felt really good to run up front and contend with the leaders. The Cup race the next day did not go well. I got loose and spun on lap 46. Everything would have been OK, but then I got hit by another car. That ended the night early. I've got one more Cup race left on my schedule this year in Phoenix so hopefully that one will go better. This weekend, I'm off to Memphis. I finished 10th in the truck race there last year, and another top-10 finish would be welcome now. After that, the Busch Series races at Texas, Phoenix and the finale at Homestead-Miami. It's hard to believe there are only four races left. The season really flies by, and it's over before you know it. It's my goal to end the season with some good finishes.
