Roush Rookie Watch: 700 club at Kansas
September has been another month of learning for me and my 3M team. We've had some good runs, but we did not get the results to show it. Cautions seemed to come at the wrong time for us at California and Dover, and an accident took us out of the running in Richmond. Our 3M Busch car was pretty good in California, and we should have had a top-10 finish. Unfortunately, we stayed out to gain track position during what would be the last caution. We thought for sure there would be at least one more caution in the final 50 laps of the race to come in for fuel, but we never got that caution. We had to pit under green, lost one lap and finished 27th. That was pretty disappointing when we knew we had a good car.

In Richmond, we struggled with the handling of the car all night until we finally found something that worked during the last pit stop. The car was pretty good then, and I began to work my way up through the field when a pack of cars ahead of me spun. I had no place to go and ended up in the wall. The damage was too severe to continue so our night ended about 34 laps early with a 36th-place finish. This past weekend in Dover was a great shift in momentum for the team. Our car was pretty good, and we actually ran in the top five for much of the race. We freed-up the car a bit on our last pit stop, and it took about 10 to 20 laps of green-flag racing for it to tighten up so it was comfortable. With six cautions in the last 75 laps, the car never came in the way we hoped. It remained loose, and we slid back to 13th to finish the race. It wasn't a bad finish, but we deserved better on that one. I'm looking forward to running the Busch and Cup races this weekend in Kansas. I really love racing at that track. I finished second in my first start there last year in the Craftsman Truck Series so I've been looking forward to going back ever since. Hopefully we can keep our momentum from Dover going and have another good run in the Busch car, and I just want to run all the laps in the Cup race to gain more experience. I'm ready for 700 miles of racing in one weekend!
