Emily Maynard wins 'The Bachelor'
Brad Womack, in his second appearance on “The Bachelor,” finally picked a bride — and she has a tie to NASCAR.
On Monday night’s season finale, Womack had to choose between 28-year-old Chantal O’Brien and 24-year-old Emily Maynard, who was engaged to the late Ricky Hendrick and is the mother of his child.
Maynard has riveted audiences since the opening week of the show this season. Hendrick, the son of NASCAR championship-winning owner Rick Hendrick, was killed in the 2004 crash of a Hendrick airplane en route to Martinsville Speedway. After his death, Maynard, who was engaged to Hendrick at the time, discovered she was pregnant with his child. Her daughter, Ricki, was born in 2005.
Throughout the episodes, she has talked of her past relationship and even participated in a driving school at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
On Monday night’s episode, both bachelorettes met Womack’s family and spent time with him.
He and Maynard then went on a date in which Womack said his family really fell in love with her.
“Whenever I look at Em, I see everything I’ve always wanted in my life,” Womack said.
Maynard questioned Womack about his commitment to having children and tried to point out the life of being a parent and what it takes, and Womack was forced to define his idea of being a father.
She was clearly nervous about his pending choice and he seemed nervous as well.
“I know with all of my heart that I am absolutely in love with him,” Maynard said.
Maynard offered insight into her feelings as she waited for the decision to be made.
“I have definitely had enough heartbreak in my life,” Maynard said prior to the final decision.
“It feels really good to finally be in love again,” Maynard said at another point.
And then, after a season of rose ceremonies and narrowing his choices, Womack made his decision.
Twitter was alive with speculation and bloggers had offered spoilers for days.
Womack discussed the combination of joy and heartache in making his choice and then spoke glowingly to O’Brien of how easy and natural their relationship has been for him. And then he told her he chose Maynard.
"You're the one, Em," he said. "You're it. You're my once in my lifetime."
He proposed and Maynard accepted.
