DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.

Kevin Harvick had better get used to accepting help from others.

FAMILY TIES

Behind every NASCAR driver, there's a support team.

Isn’t that what all new parents do, after all?

Harvick’s wife, DeLana, is due to give birth to their first child soon, and the NASCAR Sprint Cup driver took the proper precautions on Saturday in case that happens earlier than expected.

After initially saying he would not have a driver standing by if needed to fill in at Daytona International Speedway on Saturday night, Harvick has changed his mind.

Though DeLana Harvick is resting comfortably in North Carolina, according to a team release, Kevin Harvick has made backup plans after being in Daytona on Friday.

Kenny Wallace will be standing by for the team, should Harvick need to step out of the car at some point Saturday night. As long as he starts the race, by NASCAR rules, Harvick will get the points for it.

Earlier Saturday, Kevin Harvick tweeted, “Happy birthday @DeLanaHarvick could be an interesting one!!”

The NASCAR Wire Service first reported that Harvick would have a relief driver in place for the race Saturday night.

DeLana Harvick later tweeted: “Back in NC 4 precautionary reasons, but all is well w/ ¿#babyotis & i! plan is 4 @KevinHarvick to race tonight, w/ @austindillon3 on standby.”

Austin Dillon was the original choice to serve as Harvick’s relief driver, and he tweeted that he had returned to the track. But he later stated in a series of tweets that he cannot serve as a replacement because of his rookie status and because he had not taken any laps in Harvick's car.

Dillon has two Sprint Cup career starts, the most recent in June, and finished fourth in Friday night’s Nationwide Series race at the track.

The veteran Wallace has made 19 Cup starts at Daytona.
