Bonnie from Fort Wayne, Ind.: I heard NASCAR vice president Jim Hunter say on TV that if there was a tie, NASCAR would consider the two people tied as one, and they would let another person in the top 10. Why didn't that happen? Matt Kenseth and Carl Edwards tied for 8th place. Shouldn't Elliott Sadler be in the Chase.

Larry McReynolds: Later in the TNT telecast, Hunter — through the announcers — clarified that only a 10th-place tie would transfer an 11th driver into the Chase for the Nextel Cup if fewer than 10 drivers were 400 points or less behind the leader. I think that's the way it should be. If two drivers are tied after the next 10 races, NASCAR will go back to the traditional tiebreaker, and in all honesty, that's what they are doing now. If you look at how Edwards and Kenseth are ranked, both have the same points, but Edwards is higher than Kenseth because he has two wins and Kenseth has one. They pretty much had to give them the same points because they were tied at the end of 26 races. But if you look at how they're actually ranked officially, Edwards is higher than Kenseth. If two guys can be tied after 26 races, you'd better believe that they can be tied when we get to Homestead. But the traditional tiebreaker will be used with wins, second-place finishes, third-place finishes and so on.
