Trevor Bayne, Greg Biffle Win Daytona Rising 500
2011 Daytona 500 champion Trevor Bayne captured another big victory at Daytona International Speedway.
This time around, Bayne was at the wheel of a front-end loader and was partnered with Greg Biffle. The Roush Fenway Racing duo outdueled two other pairings Friday morning: Darrell Waltrip/Larry McReynolds and Ryan Newman/Jeff Burton.
The "Daytona Rising 500" event kicked off the Speedway's major frontstretch transformation, with eventual winners Bayne and Biffle being the first to break ground.
"This is groundbreaking, Daytona style," said track president Joie Chitwood. "Nobody does it as big or as bold as we do in Daytona Beach, Florida."
Redevelopment of the Speedway's frontstretch, which places an emphasis on enhancing the complete fan experience, is expected to cost between $375 to $400 million. A target completion date has been set for January 2016, in time for the 54th Rolex 24 At Daytona and the 58th DAYTONA 500.
