The Lady In Black had a bad case of PMS Saturday night, at least when it came to NASCAR Rookie of the Year candidates and hipster power couple Danica Patrick and Ricky Stenhouse Jr.
Neither Patrick nor Stenhouse had much fun in Saturday night’s Bojangles’ Southern 500 at historic Darlington Raceway, where Stenhouse finished 18th and Patrick was 28th.
It’s clear that our lovebirds didn’t enjoy themselves too much in Darlington.
Danica had to go to a backup after wrecking the GoDaddy.com Chevrolet in practice on Friday, and Stenhouse had one huge wallbanger in the race, leaving a lot more damage on the side of his Zest Ford than your typical garden variety Darlington stripe.
Last year, in her first trip to the Track Too Tough To Tame, Patrick was 31st, so at least she performed a little better this time around, though still not nearly as good as she would have liked.
As for Stenhouse he did get to have some fun earlier in the week, when he took part in some spirited barrel racing, roping and mechanical bull riding at Charlotte Motor Speedway in preparation for this week’s Wild-West-themed NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race.
Now, we don’t know if any of those ridin’ and ropin’ skills will come in handy in the motorhome compound on date night, but, hey, ladies do love cowboys.
The bottom line? Neither Stenhouse nor Patrick had a great race at Darlington. But after outdueling Danica once again, Ricky gets to kick back this week, while Danica once again does the dishes.
Scoreboard after 11 races:
Ricky — 18th in points, 0 top fives or top 10s, best finish of 11th.
Danica — 26th in points, 0 top fives, 1 top 10, best finish of 8th.
