NASCAR Road Kill: Memorable On-Track Animal Encounters

On Tuesday, we showed you part-time NCWTS driver Justin Lofton’s unfortunate encounter with a seagull during a Stadium SUPER Trucks race. Spoiler alert: it didn’t end well for the bird.

That’s not the first time an animal has been at the wrong place at the wrong time. Here are a few other memorable on-track encounters between man and beast.

Dale Earnhardt vs. Seagull

During the 1991 Daytona 500, the Intimidator has his own encounter with a wayward seagull. Earnhardt would finish 5th. The seagull was just finished.

Stephen Leicht vs. Groundhog

Of the places a groundhog could live in Pennsylvania, Gobbler’s Knob is probably the best. Pocono Raceway … not so much. The poor little guy found that out the hard way.

Brad Coleman vs. Coyote

During a 2009 testing session in Arizona, the Joe Gibbs Racing driver was running close to 200 mph when a coyote got in his way. Coleman would tell his team, "Guys, I hit a coyote. I think it clogged up the grill a little bit." Yeah, you could say that.
